Thermo Scientific Pierce BM(PEG)2 is a bismaleimide-activated PEG compound for crosslinking between sulfhydryl (—SH) groups in proteins and other thiol molecules. The maleimide groups at either end of the PEG2 spacer react specifically and efficiently with reduced sulfhydryls at pH 6.5-7.5 to form stable thioether bonds.
Features of BM(PEG)2:
• Reactive groups:maleimide (both ends) • Reactive towards: sulfhydryl groups • Long, pegylated, sulfhydryl-to-sulfhydryl crosslinkers, composed of maleimide groups and 2-unit polyethylene glycol spacer arm • PEG spacers provide unique advantages, including enhanced solubility, increased stability, reduced tendency toward aggregation and reduced immunogenicity • Pure compounds with defined structure and molecular weight, ensuring reproducible protein-modification effects • Ideal for small molecule or peptide conjugations
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Two translocating hydrophilic segments of a nascent chain span the ER membrane during multispanning protein topogenesis.
Authors:Kida Y, Morimoto F, Sakaguchi M
Journal:J Cell Biol
PubMed ID:18166653
During protein integration into the endoplasmic reticulum, the N-terminal domain preceding the type I signal-anchor sequence is translocated through a translocon. By fusing a streptavidin-binding peptide tag to the N terminus, we created integration intermediates of multispanning membrane proteins. In a cell-free system, N-terminal domain (N-domain) translocation was arrested by ... More
Strategies for stabilizing superoxide dismutase (SOD1), the protein destabilized in the most common form of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Journal:Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A
PubMed ID:21098299
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disorder characterized by the death of both upper and lower motor neurons and by 3- to 5-yr median survival postdiagnosis. The only US Food and Drug Administration-approved drug for the treatment of ALS, Riluzole, has at best, moderate effect on patient survival and quality ... More
