The Thermo Scientific™ AnStat-430 online slurry sampling and XRF elemental analysis station is a high availability, low head loss solution for high-quality measurement of critical slurry streams in mineral processing plants without the use of radioisotopes. Featuring the MEP-400 integrated probe for analysis and a representative sampler sized with single or multiple stages to suit your full flow rates, it eliminates the need for pumps and delivers continuous, accurate real-time assays. AnStat-430 enables accurate control of flotation circuits with high reliability and low maintenance.

Key features of the AnStat-430 include:

  • Incorporation of the Thermo Scientific™ MEP-400 Multi-Element Probe, which uses advanced X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology to deliver safer, more accurate, higher resolution elemental analysis for bulk commodity slurries, relative to the MEP-300 (and all other predecessors).
  • Air cooled low power X-ray tube that eliminates any requirement for radioisotopes.
  • An advanced, large surface area, energy dispersive Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) for accurate measurement from calcium to uranium with no requirement for cryogenic cooling, for reliable, trouble-free operation over a wide range of in-plant environmental conditions.
  • High speed digital pulse processor.
  • Very low head loss, simplifying design and layout for sampling while eliminating sample pumps and reducing overall plant head requirements, which optimizes energy usage for the life of the plant.
  • Exceptional availability, for reliable accurate measurement and sampling, 24/7.
  • Use of one-, two- or three-stage sampling, configured to suit your flowrate, for highly representative proportional stream sampling down to the final stage: an environmentally hardened cross-cut sampler for accurate accounting samples.
  • Final stage cross-cut sampler is identical across the full range of process volumetric flows for both the AnStat-430 and Thermo Scientific™ SamStat-30 Representative Slurry Sampling Stations.
  • Low maintenance, trouble-free operation over the long-term with minimal maintenance, as the only slurry-wetted moving parts are found in the final stage stirrer and cross-cut sampler.
  • Simplified integration into existing process plants.
  • If you need to measure multiple streams, multiple AnStat-430 units are required, as each unit is designed to handle a single stream.

The AnStat-430 offers a range of additional options, for optimized operation, for each application:

  • Pebble screen to reject oversized particles from cyclone overflow for return to the grinding circuit. This option is suggested as a back-up to a primary oversize and tramp material screen located upstream on the primary grinding circuit product.
  • Outlet distributor to divide the slurry flow into two or more separate streams of specified flow volume percentage.
  • Upwelling/reverse flow sampling zone provides ideal sampling conditions for particle size analysis (see the Thermo Scientific™ Particle Size Analyzer PSM-500)
  • Pneumatic dump valves
  • Vacuum Filter for composite (shift) samples

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

When selecting an online elemental analysis system, are dedicated analyzers better than a centralized multiplexed analyzer?

If the critical streams are monitored frequently operators should be able to control the plant to achieve overall stability and best metallurgical results at minimum cost. The less critical intermediate streams can then be monitored at a lower frequency for the fine tuning of the circuit.

How can an AnStat-430 station reduce construction costs in my new copper flotation plant or expansion?

Thermo Scientific samplers and analyzers have very low head loss. This helps minimize the need for additional piping and larger pumps. Our solutions can help reduce capital costs of new plant construction by requiring very low elevation and using gravity instead of pumping.

What is the best way of engineering a sampling and analysis solution for high availability?

Integrating sampling and analysis into one product is the best solution. Placing the analyzer within the sampler ensures the probe sees a large volume of sample and provides dedicated real-time measurement, time aligned with shift composite and calibration samples, with negligible bias. On the plant design and CAPEX front, this approach reduces piping design hours and expenditures on pumping. On an ongoing basis, integration minimizes maintenance and operation costs. The Thermo Scientific AnStat-430 Sampling and Analysis Station encapsulates this approach. As a low head loss system, it offers excellent availability and is well-matched to applications requiring high frequency dedicated measurement.
