DMEM (Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium) is a widely used basal medium for supporting the growth of many different mammalian cells. Cells successfully cultured in DMEM include primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, and smooth muscle cells, as well as cell lines such as HeLa, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12. Life Technologies offers a variety of DMEM modifications for a range of cell culture applications. Find the right formulation using the media selector tool.

This DMEM is modified as follows:
WithWithout
• High Glucose• HEPES
• Sodium Pyruvate
• GlutaMAX™
• Phenol Red

The complete formulation is available.

Using DMEM
DMEM is unique from other media as it contains 4 times the concentration of amino acids and vitamins than the original Eagle's Minimal Essential Medium. DMEM was originally formulated with low glucose (1 g/L) and sodium pyruvate, but is often used with higher glucose levels, with or without sodium pyruvate. DMEM with GlutaMAX™ supplement minimizes toxic ammonia build-up and improves cell viability and growth in an easy-to-use format. DMEM contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors. Therefore, DMEM requires supplementation, commonly with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). DMEM uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (3.7 g/L), and therefore requires a 5–10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH.

Product use
For human ex vivo tissue and cell culture processing applications. CAUTION: When used as a medical device, Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician. cGMP manufacturing and quality system
DMEM is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility located in Grand Island, New York. The facility is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and is certified to ISO 13485 standards. For supply chain continuity, Life Technologies offers an identical DMEM product made in our Scotland facility (31966-021). This facility is also registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and certified to the ISO 13485 standard.

자주 묻는 질문(FAQ)

What is the manganese concentration in DMEM? Do you offer manganese-free DMEM?

Manganese is not present in the formulation of our catalog DMEM media products.

Find additional tips, troubleshooting help, and resources within our Cell Culture Support Center.

How long can I keep my media after supplementing with serum?

Generally speaking, media can be used for up to three weeks after supplementation with serum. There are no formal studies to support this, but it is the rule of thumb used by our scientists.

My medium was shipped at room temperature but it is supposed to be stored refrigerated. Is it okay?

We routinely ship media that require long-term storage in the refrigerator at room temperature. We have done studies on representative media formulations to show that media can be at room temperature for up to a week without a problem.

Will depletion, absence, or breakdown of essential growth-promoting components such as glutamine or growth factors reduce the growth rate of my culture?

Yes. If you suspect that this is the case, remove the medium and add fresh medium. Alternatively, you can supplement medium with growth-promoting components. It is also possible to substitute GlutaMax I or II for glutamine in the medium to prevent glutamine exhaustion.

Find additional tips, troubleshooting help, and resources within our Cell Culture Support Center.

Will the media formulations containing GlutaMAX supplement change with respect to L-glutamine content?

In all media containing GlutaMAX supplement dipeptides as a substitute for L-glutamine, concentration is equimolar with the L-glutamine in the original formulation.

Abstract
Protective effects of memantine and epicatechin on catechol-induced toxicity on Müller cells in vitro.

'This study evaluates the toxic effects of catechol (a component from cigarette smoke) on Müller cells (MIO-M1) in vitro, and investigates the inhibitors memantine and epicatechin to determine if they can reverse the catechol toxic effects. MIO-M1 cells were exposed to varying concentrations of catechol with or without memantine or ... More
