La higromicina B es un antibiótico soluble en agua purificado a partir de la bacteria Streptomyces kanamyceticus. La higromicina B Gibco™ se utiliza como antibiótico de selección bacteriana en el intervalo de concentraciones de 200 a 500 μg/ml. Este producto se suministra como una solución de 50 mg/ml.
La resistencia a la higromicina B se obtiene por el gen de resistencia a la higromicina de E. coli (hyg o hph). La higromicina B tiene un modo de acción diferente a los reactivos de selección Geneticin™, blasticidina S o Zeocin™, lo que hace que sea una opción excelente para los experimentos de selección doble (consulte la selección de antibióticos).

However, kill curves will need to be performed for each combination of antibiotics since sensitivity to a given antibiotic tends to increase when combined with other antibiotics.
