El reactivo de derivatización ATTO-TAG™ CBQCA (CBQCA; 3-(4carboxibenzoilo)quinolina- 2-carboxaldehído) reacciona específicamente con aminas primarias para formar conjugados que pueden analizarse por métodos electrofórticos o cromatográficos. Los productos resultantes de CBQCA tienen un máximo de excitación a 450 nm o por la línea espectral 442 nm del láser de He-Cd y cuentan con una emisión máxima de ∼ 550 nm. En la electroforesis de zona capilar (CZE), la sensibilidad de detección de conjugados ATTO-TAG™ CBQCA debe estar a nivel de atomoles (10-18 moles) La alta sensibilidad, la no necesidad de fondo y la excitabilidad de longitud de onda larga hacen que estos reactivos potenciales sean ideales para aplicaciones forenses, de investigación y de diagnóstico.
