Potassium Chloride Solution

Pretreat the samples to increase yield of Legionella from clinical specimens using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Potassium Chloride Solution (pH 2.2, 0.2M). In 1981, Bopp et al. demonstrated the recovery rate of Legionella from environmental water samples was improved by treating samples with acid prior to plating onto selective media¹. Buesching et al. demonstrated the recovery of Legionella organisms from clinical specimens was improved by pre-treatment with potassium chloride-hydrochloric acid solution (pH 2.2)².

Potassium Chloride Solution (pH 2.2, 0.2M) is a liquid medium that is used as a pretreatment to increase yield of Legionella from clinical specimens. Potassium Chloride Solution (pH 2.2, 0.2M) is an acid wash treatment which serves to decontaminate specimens prior to inoculation of media for Legionella cultivation.

Potassium Chloride Solution (pH 2.2, 0.2M) contains hydrochloric acid (0.2 M) and potassium chloride (0.2M) with pH 2.2.
