Alexa Fluor™ 350 streptavidin comprises a biotin-binding protein (streptavidin) covalently attached to a fluorescent label (Alexa Fluor™ dye). Streptavidin has a very high binding affinity for biotin, and a conjugate of streptavidin is commonly used together with a conjugate of biotin for specific detection of a variety of proteins, protein motifs, nucleic acids, and other molecules (for example, a biotinylated primary antibody bound to a protein target can be detected with a fluorescently labeled streptavidin). Strategies similar to this are used in many detection protocols including western blots, flow cytometry, imaging and microscopy, and microplate assays. Alexa Fluor™ dye streptavidin conjugates are supplied as 1 mg lyophilized product or in 0.5 mL volumes of a 2 mg/mL solution.

Important Features of Alexa Fluor™ 350 Streptavidin Conjugates:
Alexa Fluor™ 350 streptavidin conjugate has Ex/Em maxima of ∼ (346/442)
Bright, photostable fluorescence
High solubility in aqueous solutions
Available in multiple colors
Ideal for western blots, flow cytometry, imaging and microscopy, microplate assays and more

Properties of Alexa Fluor™ Dyes
Alexa Fluor™ dyes are organic fluorescent dyes developed for better performance in imaging and other labeling protocols and exhibit improved photostability and brightness and improved solubility in aqueous solutions. Available in a broad range of colors, these dyes are a good choice for most imaging applications.

Consult user Manual for solubility instructions.

Blocking Endogenous Biotin
Naturally occurring biotins can interfere with biotin-streptavidin detection schemes. For experiments involving fixed and permeabilized cells, try our Endogenous Biotin-Blocking Kit to minimize this interference.

Abstract
The TSC1 tumour suppressor hamartin regulates cell adhesion through ERM proteins and the GTPase Rho.
Authors:Lamb RF, Roy C, Diefenbach TJ, Vinters HV, Johnson MW, Jay DG, Hall A
Journal:Nat Cell Biol
PubMed ID:10806479
'Loss of the tumour-suppressor gene TSC1 is responsible for hamartoma development in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), which renders several organs susceptible to benign tumours. Hamartin, the protein encoded by TSC1, contains a coiled-coil domain and is expressed in most adult tissues, although its function is unknown. Here we show that ... More
CCR5 provides a signal for microbial induced production of IL-12 by CD8 alpha+ dendritic cells.
Authors:Aliberti J, Reis e Sousa C, Schito M, Hieny S, Wells T, Huffnagle GB, Sher A
Journal:Nat Immunol
PubMed ID:10881180
'The activation of dendritic cells (DC) to produce interleukin 12 (IL-12) is thought to be a key step in the initiation of cell-mediated immunity to intracellular pathogens. Here we show that ligation of the C-C chemokine receptor (CCR) 5 can provide a major signal for the induction of IL-12 synthesis ... More
Helicobacter pylori evolution during progression from chronic atrophic gastritis to gastric cancer and its impact on gastric stem cells.
Authors:Giannakis M, Chen SL, Karam SM, Engstrand L, Gordon JI,
Journal:Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A
PubMed ID:18332421
'We have characterized the adaptations of Helicobacter pylori to a rarely captured event in the evolution of its impact on host biology-the transition from chronic atrophic gastritis (ChAG) to gastric adenocarcinoma-and defined the impact of these adaptations on an intriguing but poorly characterized interaction between this bacterium and gastric epithelial ... More
Versatile, high-resolution anterograde labeling of vagal efferent projections with dextran amines.
Authors:Walter GC, Phillips RJ, Baronowsky EA, Powley TL,
Journal:J Neurosci Methods
PubMed ID:19056424
'None of the anterograde tracers used to label and investigate vagal preganglionic neurons projecting to the viscera has proved optimal for routine and extensive labeling of autonomic terminal fields. To identify an alternative tracer protocol, the present experiment evaluated whether dextran conjugates, which have produced superior results in the CNS, ... More
Müller glia are a potential source of neural regeneration in the postnatal chicken retina.
Authors:Fischer AJ, Reh TA
Journal:Nat Neurosci
PubMed ID:11224540
The retina of warm-blooded vertebrates is believed to be incapable of neural regeneration. Here we provide evidence that the retina of postnatal chickens has the potential to generate new neurons. In response to acute damage, numerous Müller glia re-entered the cell cycle, and shortly thereafter, expressed CASH-1, Pax6 and Chx10, ... More
