General Description

  • Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic derived from lincomycin that has antibiotic activity against aerobic gram-positive cocci, and parasitic protozoa
  • Clindamycin reversibly binds to the 50s bacterial ribosomal subunit, thus inhibiting protein synthesis

Applications

  • Clindamycin has been used to enhance bacterial colonization in research mice during the study of commensal gut microbiota
  • Clindamycin has been used to study biofilm-mediated antibiotic resistance in an in vitro model of G. vaginalis
  • Clindamycin was used as a selection agent to isolate, enumerate, and identify Lactobacillus spp. from probiotic dairy products
