Thermo Scientific™ InstrumentConnect is professional-grade remote monitoring system for monitoring laboratory equipment and other devices to help protect samples and increase asset management efficiencies. The InstrumentConnect system utilizes Connect Edge adapters and gateways to send data to the InstrumentConnect cloud or to your own premise-based system (LIMS, BMS, SCADA) using OPC-UA™ protocol. Connect Edge hardware is compatible with 700+ Thermo Fisher Scientific laboratory equipment makes and models.

System Hardware

  • Device Adapter-Palm-size adapters collect and transmit data from lab equipment/devices to gateways using Ethernet (WAN) connectivity or Wi-Fi (where permitted).
  • Sensor Adapter-Adapter to collect and transmit data from lab any OEM equipment/device to gateways using Ethernet (WAN) connectivity or Wi-Fi (where permitted).
  • Ethernet Base Converter-used to convert any Wi-Fi device adapter to Ethernet/PoE. Used to convert Sensor Adapter to Ethernet (excludes PoE).
  • Connect Edge Gateway-Receives data from adapters to send to InstrumentConnect (cloud) or customer on-premise system/cloud via OPC-UA using Ethernet (WAN) connectivity or Wi-Fi (where permitted).

instrumentConnect Integrate for OPC UA (OPC-UA to Cloud or Prem)

  • Utilize the Connect Edge system to collect and transmit data to your on-premises system or cloud using Open Platform Communications Unified Platform. The Connect Edge gateway can be enabled as an OPC server for 10 or more devices.

You can connect 10 device or sensor adapters to each Connect Edge gateway. Gateways can host greater than 10 devices in many cases, however this is determined by reviewing post installation gateway CPU usage. Deciding which topology is applicable to your work or laboratory environment will determine the number of gateways you will need.

Connect Edge system has 3 main topologies

  • Direct Wi-Fi-Device adapters are configured to transmit data directly to your Connect Edge gateway (10 per gateway). Your adapters must be in proximity (50-150 feet) to the gateway.
  • Single/Dual Network- adapters are configured to connect to your local network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi (where permitted) and transmit data to the Connect Edge gateway, also on the same network. This topology is ideal if devices to be monitored are not within proximity to eachother or a gateway.

Building your system

  • Determine type (Ethernet-only/WiFi+Ethernet) and quantity of gateway(s) needed based on network topology preference. The Configuration Planning Guide can be used for reference, if needed.
  • Select compatible adapter for your lab equipment
  • Purchase subscription/license for each device
  • Determine whether self-install or professional-install is desired (where available)

System hardware and software is available for purchase in packages or a-la-carte. A built-in gateway discount is included with all packages. Additional savings with 3 and 5-year packages.
