Arbutin, a glycosylated hydroquinone, is used in studies on melanin biosynthesis and as an inhibitor to identify, differentiate and characterize tyrosinase(s). Also used in sed as a skin-lightening agent in cosmetic products.

Solubility
Soluble in water (50 mg/ml), methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide.
