CHO-S-SFM II, with hypoxanthine and thymidine (Gibco™)

CHO-S-SFM II, is a complete, serum-free, low-protein (less than 100 µ/ml) medium optimized for the growth and maintenance of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells in suspension culture for production of recombinant proteins. It is supplemented with hypoxanthine and thymidine (the non-supplemented equivalent is also available). This ready-to-use medium is suitable for the suspension culturing of CHO and other cells in batch, continuous, and perfusion culture systems. A CHO-S-SFM II medium Drug Master File (DMF) has been submitted to the FDA. Permission to cross-reference the Master File may be obtained by contacting Technical Services or your local Sales Representative.

This medium contains components of animal origin. If growth factors or hydrolysates, found in competitor media, are to be avoided, consider CD CHO, CD OptiCHO™ or CD FortiCHO™ media.

When to use CHO-S-SFM II Medium
• Your cells have been successfully cultured in CHO-S-SFM II medium in the past and your process is nearing a regulatory filing (DMF available)

When to Consider Another Gibco® Medium

Consider CD FortiCHO™ medium when:
• The cell line you are using is a transfected CHO K1, GS CHO or CHO-S™ cell line
• Maximum batch culture cell densities and protein titers are needed
• You have time to adapt cells into a new medium in an effort to maximize titers
• Cell health at harvest is a priority for downstream processing

Consider CD OptiCHO™ medium when:
• You are using a transfected CHO cell line other than CHO K1, GS CHO or CHO-S™ cell lines
• Optimization of feeding strategies will be part of your base medium selection testing in an effort to maximize productivity
• Your CHO cell line is “finicky," i.e. hard to grow or adapt

Consider CD CHO medium when:
• Your GS CHO cells are recommended to be grown in CD CHO medium

Medium 171 (Gibco™)

A sterile, liquid medium for the culture of human mammary epithelial cells. This basal medium requires the addition of MEGS (S-015-5) prior to use.

StemPro™ MSC SFM XenoFree (Gibco™)

GIBCO® StemPro® MSC SFM XenoFree has been developed for the growth and expansion of human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and Adipose-derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) under completely serum-free and xenogeneic (xeno)-free conditions. Using StemPro® MSC SFM XenoFree, human MSCs or ADSCs can be expanded for multiple passages while maintaining their multipotent phenotype (i.e. ability to differentiate into osteogenic, chondrogenic and adipogenic lineages). StemPro® MSC SFM XenoFree is cGMP compliant which allows for traceability and manufacturing reliability.

Sf-900™ II SFM (Gibco™)

Sf-900™ II SFM is a serum-free, protein-free insect cell culture medium optimized for the growth and maintenance of Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9 and Sf21) cells and for large-scale production of recombinant proteins expressed using the baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS). This medium is suitable for suspension and monolayer culture methods and supports growth of other lepidopteran cell lines. Sf-900™ II SFM features:

Superior long-term, high-density growth
Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) cells grown in Sf-900™ II SFM achieve maximum cell densities of 9 to 12 x 106 cells/mL, a significant improvement over competitors' formulations and Grace’s medium (see Product Manual). Increases in maximum cell densities of 20–100% are also observed with the Lymantria dispar (Gypsy moth) and Trichoplusia ni (Tn-368; Cabbage Looper) cell lines. Sf-900™ II SFM is capable of supporting the cultures to >20 passages.

Optimized for recombinant protein production
Traditionally, Grace's medium supplemented with 10% FBS has been used for recombinant protein expression. Sf-900™ II SFM is an improved serum-free, protein-free medium designed for growth of Sf9 and other lepidopteran cell lines and production of insect virus and rDNA proteins.

Serum-free, protein-free, ready-to-use formulation
Sf-900™ II SFM is a serum-free, protein-free medium that allows for much easier purification of your protein of interest. Sf-900™ II SFM is ready to use; it does not require addition of serum, glutamine, or surfactants. Cells adapted to other commercially available serum-free media can be subcultured directly into Sf-900™ II SFM, usually without any further adaptation. Cells usually require some adaptation from serum-containing formulations.

Scalable in bioreactors
The utility of Sf-900™ II SFM in larger-scale cell culture systems was demonstrated with a 5 L Celligen™ bioreactor. Successful infections with rAcNPV were carried out producing rβ-Gal and rEPO (see Product Manual).

Product use
Customers using Gibco® Sf-900 II SFM in a manufacturing process, who have a submission with the FDA, may request a letter of authorization from us to reference our Type II Drug Master File (DMF).

cGMP manufacturing and quality system
For supply chain continuity, we manufacture Sf-900 II SFM at two separate facilities located in Grand Island, NY and Scotland, UK. Both sites are compliant with cGMP manufacturing requirements, are certified to ISO 13485, and are registered with the FDA as medical device manufacturers.

CD BHK-21 Production Medium (Gibco™)

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is a chemically defined, protein-free cell culture medium. It is designed to support the growth of BHK-21 cells in serum-free suspension culture. This medium is suitable for large-scale manufacturing applications.

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is the first cell culture medium supporting complete serum-free and protein-free processes for BHK-21 cells. The dry powder format is easy to reconstitute, since it has no hydrolysates in the formulation. Adapting cells from serum-containing media is a rapid and simple procedure. BHK-21 cells can achieve high cell densities and maintain high cell viability in this medium.

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is suitable for large-scale suspension culture. Because it does not require supplementation with serum or other undefined components, Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium eliminates the risks associated with serum, while allowing you to achieve consistent virus titers and simplifying downstream purification.

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility located in Grand Island, New York. The facility is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and is certified to ISO 13485 standards.

Dynamis™ AGT™ Medium (Gibco™)

Gibco® Dynamis™ AGT™ dry format medium is specifically designed to offer the highest batch and fed-batch culture performance and yield with recombinant CHO cells in a chemically defined environment. The chemically defined, protein-free, animal origin component-free formulation provides the power to achieve high titers, start process development faster, and streamline or simplify transfer to manufacturing scale.

Power to achieve higher titers
Dynamis™ AGT™ Medium is fortified to help maximize recombinant CHO cell growth and protein expression in suspension batch culture, offering 170% greater production than select competitive media with simple glucose supplementation by day 14. Cultures grown in Dynamis™ AGT™ Medium extend to even higher titers demonstrating good cell viability out to day 21. This medium can also provide up to 60% greater fed-batch growth and production over glucose-only fed-batch culture for selected cell lines and applications when used with EfficientFeed™ C+ AGT™ Supplement.

Neurobasal™ Medium (Gibco™)

Neurobasal Medium is a basal medium designed for long-term maintenance and maturation of pure pre-natal and embryonic neuronal cell populations without the need for an astrocyte feeder layer when used with Gibco B-27 supplements.

Neurobasal Medium is suitable for use in most neuronal cell applications. For other applications, we provide alternative formulations of Neurobasal media and B-27 supplements.

ExpiCHO™ Expression Medium (Gibco™)

ExpiCHO™ Expression Medium is a GMP-manufactured, chemically-defined, serum-free, protein-free, animal origin–free medium specifically designed for high-density growth and transfection of suspension-adapted Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. It is a core component of the ExpiCHO™ Expression System Kit (Cat. No. A29133) for scalable transient protein production.

ExpiCHO Expression Medium:
• Supports growth of suspension CHO cultures to densities of over 2 x 107 cells per mL, with >95% cell viability
• Uses a transfection-compatible, serum-free suspension culture medium that enables high transfection efficiencies of >90% with ExpiFectamine™ CHO transfection reagent
• Supports transient transfection of suspension CHO cells at a density of 6 x 106 cells per mL
• Facilitates sustained, high-level expression of high-density transiently transfected cultures, achieving yields of up to 3 g per L of recombinant protein
• Supports growth and transfection of CHO cells in culture formats from <1 mL in multi-well plates to >10 L in benchtop bioreactors
• Does not contain phenol red

ExpiCHO Expression Medium is formulated with GlutaMAX™-I reagent. It is ready to use, with no supplementation required. The chemically-defined formulation results in high reproducibility and lot-to-lot reliability. For highest level transient protein expression, the medium is used in combination with a matched culture feed, ExpiCHO™ Feed, which is supplied as part of the ExpiFectamine™ CHO Transfection Kit (Cat. No. A29129). ExpiCHO Expression Medium is not recommended for adherent cell cultures. Cells are typically grown in Erlenmeyer-style flasks on a shaker platform in a humidified, CO2 cell culture incubator. However, cultures are scalable from volumes of <1 mL in multi-well plates to >10 L in bioreactors.

LHC Basal Medium (1X) (Gibco™)

LHC serum-free media are the most widely used products for culture of bronchial epithelial cells. For maximum flexibility and convenience, we offer these products with or without supplementation.

PSC Definitive Endoderm Induction Kit (Gibco™)

Gibco™ PSC Definitive Endoderm Induction Kit consists of two xeno-free media that enable efficient induction of human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) to definitive endoderm. Unlike other methods that require multiple components and take five or more days, the PSC Definitive Endoderm Induction Kit can generate ≥90% CXCR4+/PDGFRα- definitive endoderm cells with only two components in just two days. Each medium is supplied as a 1X complete medium, requiring no mixing in of additional components, and the resultant definitive endoderm is capable of differentiating into midgut/hindgut, pancreatic endoderm, or liver bud progenitors that express relevant physiological markers.

Generation of high quality definitive endoderm
Definitive endoderm generated using the PSC Definitive Endoderm Induction Kit is capable of differentiating into downstream lineages such as midgut/hindgut (expressing CDX2), pancreatic endoderm (expressing PDX2), and liver bud progenitors (expressing AFP).

Rapid production of definitive endoderm
The PSC Definitive Endoderm Induction Kit is capable of producing definitive endoderm in only two days.

Generation of highly pure definitive endoderm
The PSC Definitive Endoderm Induction Kit is capable of producing highly pure populations of definitive endoderm from pluripotent stem cells, showing ≥90% CXCR4+/PDGFRα- across multiple lines and high expression of key markers SOX17 and FOXA2.

No mixing in of components required
Each medium is supplied at a 1X concentration, requiring no mixing in of reagents. Simply thaw the media and add to PSC culture.

AIM V™ Medium, liquid (research grade) (Gibco™)

Contains L-glutamine, streptomycin sulfate at 50 µg/ml, and gentamicin sulfate at 10 µg/ml.

Neurobasal™ Medium, minus phenol red (Gibco™)

Neurobasal Medium, minus phenol red is a basal medium designed for long-term maintenance and maturation of pure pre-natal and embryonic neurons without the need for an astrocyte feeder layer when used with Gibco B-27 supplements. Use this modified formulation of Neurobasal Medium when the presence of phenol red will interfere with your results.

Neurobasal Medium is suitable for use in most neuronal cell applications. For other applications, we provide alternative formulations of Neurobasal media and B-27 supplements.

Contains L-glutamine but no calcium chloride. Keratinocyte-SFM is supplied with prequalified human recombinant Epidermal Growth Factor 1-53 (EGF 1-53) and Bovine Pituitary Extract (BPE) in separate packaging. Components are not sold separately.

CD Hybridoma Medium (Gibco™)

CD Hybridoma Medium is an animal origin–free, chemically defined, protein-free medium specifically developed for the ability to support the growth of hybridomas for antibody production. Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium features:

• Ability to support suspension and stationary hybridomas and myelomas
• Formulated without L-glutamine for stability
• Animal origin–free, protein-free, and chemically defined formulation

Ability to support suspension and stationary hybridomas and myelomas
Suitable for the culture of recombinant myeloma lines as well as traditional hybridomas, Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium provides high cell densities and IgG production. Cholesterol-dependent cultures such as NS0 require the addition of 250X Cholesterol Lipid Concentrate.

Formulated without L-glutamine for stability
Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium requires the addition of 8 mM L-glutamine or GlutaMAX™ supplement before use. GlutaMAX™ supplement minimizes toxic ammonia build-up and improves cell viability and growth in an easy-to-use format.

Animal origin–free, protein-free, and chemically defined formulation
Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium is animal origin–free, protein-free, and chemically defined, allowing for easier purification of your protein of interest. Gibco® chemically defined media contain no proteins, hydrolysates, or components of unknown composition.

EpiLife™ Medium, with 60 µM calcium (Gibco™)

A sterile, liquid medium prepared with 60 µM calcium chloride for the long-term, serum-free culture of human epidermal keratinocytes and human corneal epithelial cells. This basal medium requires the addition of an appropriate growth supplement prior to use. EpiLife® greatly extends the in vitro lifespan of human epidermal keratinocytes compared to other serum-free media systems. This basal media is animal origin free and contains essential and non-essential amino acids, vitamins, other organic compounds, trace minerals, and inorganic salts. It does not contain antibiotics, antimycotics, hormones, growth factors, or proteins. EpiLife® medium is HEPES and bicarbonate buffered, and is designed for use in an incubator with an atmosphere of 5% CO2 and 95% air.
