StemPro™-34 SFM (1X) Gibco™

StemPro®-34 SFM is a serum-free medium specifically formulated to support the development of human hematopoietic cells in culture (1). StemPro®-34 SFM can be used to study hematopoietic cells from bone marrow, peripheral blood, or neonatal cord blood. StemPro®-34 SFM is performance-tested on normal human bone marrow. It is manufactured with components of human, recombinant or synthetic origin.

StemPro®-34 SFM consists of a basal liquid medium and frozen supplement (StemPro®-Nutrient Supplement) which is added at the time of use.

CHO-S-SFM II, with hypoxanthine and thymidine Gibco™

CHO-S-SFM II, is a complete, serum-free, low-protein (less than 100 µ/ml) medium optimized for the growth and maintenance of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells in suspension culture for production of recombinant proteins. It is supplemented with hypoxanthine and thymidine (the non-supplemented equivalent is also available). This ready-to-use medium is suitable for the suspension culturing of CHO and other cells in batch, continuous, and perfusion culture systems. A CHO-S-SFM II medium Drug Master File (DMF) has been submitted to the FDA. Permission to cross-reference the Master File may be obtained by contacting Technical Services or your local Sales Representative.

This medium contains components of animal origin. If growth factors or hydrolysates, found in competitor media, are to be avoided, consider CD CHO, CD OptiCHO™ or CD FortiCHO™ media.

When to use CHO-S-SFM II Medium
• Your cells have been successfully cultured in CHO-S-SFM II medium in the past and your process is nearing a regulatory filing (DMF available)

When to Consider Another Gibco® Medium

Consider CD FortiCHO™ medium when:
• The cell line you are using is a transfected CHO K1, GS CHO or CHO-S™ cell line
• Maximum batch culture cell densities and protein titers are needed
• You have time to adapt cells into a new medium in an effort to maximize titers
• Cell health at harvest is a priority for downstream processing

Consider CD OptiCHO™ medium when:
• You are using a transfected CHO cell line other than CHO K1, GS CHO or CHO-S™ cell lines
• Optimization of feeding strategies will be part of your base medium selection testing in an effort to maximize productivity

CD CHO medium is a protein-free, serum-free, chemically-defined medium optimized for the growth of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells and expression of recombinant proteins in suspension culture. With a proven track record of quality for more than 10 years, CD CHO medium contains no proteins or peptide components of animal, plant, or synthetic origin, as well as no undefined lysates or hydrolysates.

AmnioMAX™ C-100 Basal Medium Gibco™

Gibco® AmnioMAX™ C-100 Basal Medium is part of a kit used to prepare a fully-supplemented Gibco® AmnioMAX™ C-100 Complete Medium developed for the short term culture of human amniotic fluid cells for cytogenetic studies and in vitro diagnostic procedures.

Easy-to-use format
Gibco® AmnioMAX™ C-100 Complete Medium is a two-part kit for preparation of a complete medium that requires no additional supplementation. The complete medium can be stored at 2–8°C for up to ten days.

Quality and performance testing
Every lot of Gibco® AmnioMAX™ C-100 Complete Medium is performance tested by a certified US reference cytogenetics laboratory to ensure consistently superior performance. Pooled primary human amniotic fluid samples are cultured for six days in Gibco® AmnioMAX™ C-100 Complete Medium before measuring the total number of colonies and total number of mitotic colonies. In addition, each lot is tested for sterility, pH and osmolality.

Unique, optimized formulation
Gibco® AmnioMAX™ C-100 Complete Medium contains Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS), gentamicin, and L-glutamine to maximize cell attachment and growth. This optimized medium also has an enhanced buffering system that provides greater pH stability during culture manipulations.

Grace's Insect Medium, supplemented Gibco™

Grace's Insect Medium, Supplemented, was originally designed for the growth of cells from the Australian Emperor Gum Moth, Antherea eucalypti. Grace's Supplemented Insect Medium is now widely used for the growth of Spodeptera frugiperda cells, Sf9 and Sf21.

Sf9 and Sf21 cells are routinely used to express recombinant protein using the Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS). We offer a variety of Gibco® media options for a range of insect cell culture applications.

Formulation
This Grace's Insect Medium contains lactalbumin hydrolysate, yeastolate, L-glutamine, and sodium bicarbonate. The complete formulation is available. Grace's Supplemented Insect Medium contains lactalbumin hydrolysate and yeastolate not commonly found in the unsupplemented version.

Dual site cGMP manufacturing and quality system
Gibco® Grace's Supplemented Insect Medium is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility located in Grand Island, New York. Grace's Supplemented Insect Medium contains lactalbumin hydrolysate and yeastolate, and is commonly supplemented with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) before use. Grace's Supplemented Insect Medium requires ambient CO2 in order to maintain physiological pH.

CD Hybridoma Medium Gibco™

CD Hybridoma Medium is an animal origin–free, chemically defined, protein-free medium specifically developed for the ability to support the growth of hybridomas for antibody production. Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium features:

Ability to support suspension and stationary hybridomas and myelomas
Suitable for the culture of recombinant myeloma lines as well as traditional hybridomas, Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium provides high cell densities and IgG production. Cholesterol-dependent cultures such as NS0 require the addition of 250X Cholesterol Lipid Concentrate.

Formulated without L-glutamine for stability
Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium requires the addition of 8 mM L-glutamine or GlutaMAX™ supplement before use. GlutaMAX™ supplement minimizes toxic ammonia build-up and improves cell viability and growth in an easy-to-use format.

Animal origin–free, protein-free, and chemically defined formulation
Gibco® CD Hybridoma Medium is animal origin–free, protein-free, and chemically defined, allowing for easier purification of your protein of interest. Gibco® chemically defined media contain no proteins, hydrolysates, or components of unknown composition.

Quality and performance testing
Every lot of Gibco® PB-MAX™ Karyotyping Medium is performance tested by a certified US reference cytogenetics laboratory to ensure consistently superior performance. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from a normal adult donor are cultured for 72 hours in Gibco® PB-MAX™ Karyotyping Medium before measuring the mitotic index and chromosome banding resolution. In addition, each lot is tested for sterility, pH, osmolality, and mycoplasma.

Classic formulation
Gibco® PB-MAX™ Karyotyping Medium is an optimized RPMI 1640 medium, supplemented with Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS), L-glutamine, and phytohemagglutinin (PHA). Gibco® PB-MAX™ Karyotyping Medium is based on formulations referenced in the Association for Cytogenetic Technologists Laboratory Manual for the culture of peripheral blood lymphocytes for cytogenetic analysis. FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium Gibco™

FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium is an animal origin–free, chemically defined, protein-free medium specifically developed to support the growth and transient transfection of CHO-S cells in suspension without adaptation.

This medium requires supplementation with 8 mM glutamine before use. Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium features:

Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium is made without hypoxanthine and thymidine for use in dihydrofolate reductase (dhfr) amplification systems. Non-dhfr systems require the addition of HT Supplement before use.

Ability to support high-density suspension growth and transient transfection of CHO-S cells
Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO cells in suspension can be cultured directly into Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium without adaptation. Cells adapted to other commercially available serum-free media can be subcultured directly into Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium, usually without any further adaptation. Cells usually require adaptation from serum-containing formulations. Cells cultured in Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium can be transfected using lipid-based transfection reagents, such as Freestyle™ MAX reagent.

Animal origin–free, protein-free and chemically defined formulation
Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium is animal origin–free, protein-free, and chemically defined, allowing for easier purification of your protein of interest. Gibco® chemically defined media contain no proteins, hydrolysates, or components of unknown composition.

Easy use as part of the FreeStyle™ MAX CHO Expression System for protein production
The FreeStyle™ MAX CHO Expression System is a breakthrough technology for rapid (see figure) and high-yield mammalian protein production in 30 mL and 1 L batch sizes (see figure). The FreeStyle™ MAX CHO Expression System combines GIBCO® FreeStyle™ media, FreeStyle™ MAX reagent, and either FreeStyle™ CHO-S cells or FreeStyle™ 293-F cells in one kit.

Scalability in spinner flasks and bioreactors
Protein production using Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium can be scaled up in spinner flasks or bioreactors. The appropriate spinner or impeller speed and seeding density should be optimized for each system. Depending on the impeller design and speed, it may be necessary to supplement Gibco® FreeStyle™ CHO Expression Medium with additional Pluronic® F-68 to avoid sheer stress in the culture.

The power to streamline transfer to manufacturing
ExpiCHO SPM liquid format and AGT dry format demonstrate comparable cell growth and titer performance (see figure below). Therefore, scale-up and manufacturing using AGT dry format is simplified by knowing that the reconstituted AGT dry format will behave similarly to the liquid format used prior to scale-up. The AGT dry format is easy to reconstitute; just add water and it will automatically adjust pH and osmolality. This can help provide efficiencies in supply chain complexity, reconstitution complexity, and, therefore, overall expense.

When to use ExpiCHO Stable Production Medium:
• When you are using the ExpiCHO-S cell line for transient expression and want to scale up
• After you have completed the stable transfection of ExpiCHO-S cells in ExpiCHO Expression Medium. (Follow our recommended protocol.)
• When you do not have the time to perform medium adaptation or optimization

When NOT to use ExpiCHO Stable Production Medium:
• When you have an existing platform cell-line or feeds and are looking for a broad medium to support a wide variety of cell-lines
• When you need a medium for transfection. For transient and stable transfection, ExpiCHO Expression Medium is recommended.
