PSC Cardiomyocyte Maintenance Medium (Gibco™)

Gibco™ Cardiomyocyte Maintenance Medium is a serum-free and xeno-free medium that is capable of maintaining cardiomyocytes that have been differentiated using the PSC Cardiomyocyte Differentiation Kit (Cat. No. A2921201). This medium is included in the kit and sold separately for researchers wishing to maintain differentiated cardiomyocytes in culture for extended periods of time.

• No thawing or mixing required—simply warm and add to differentiated cardiomyocyte culture
• Long-term culture—maintain differentiated cardiomyocytes in culture for >15 days
• Stable phenotype—maintain phenotype throughout long-term culture experiments

CHO-S-SFM II, with hypoxanthine and thymidine (Gibco™)

CHO-S-SFM II, is a complete, serum-free, low-protein (less than 100 µ/ml) medium optimized for the growth and maintenance of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells in suspension culture for production of recombinant proteins. It is supplemented with hypoxanthine and thymidine (the non-supplemented equivalent is also available). This ready-to-use medium is suitable for the suspension culturing of CHO and other cells in batch, continuous, and perfusion culture systems. A CHO-S-SFM II medium Drug Master File (DMF) has been submitted to the FDA. Permission to cross-reference the Master File may be obtained by contacting Technical Services or your local Sales Representative.

This medium contains components of animal origin. If growth factors or hydrolysates, found in competitor media, are to be avoided, consider CD CHO, CD OptiCHO™ or CD FortiCHO™ media.

When to use CHO-S-SFM II Medium
• Your cells have been successfully cultured in CHO-S-SFM II medium in the past and your process is nearing a regulatory filing (DMF available)

When to Consider Another Gibco® Medium

Consider CD FortiCHO™ medium when:
• The cell line you are using is a transfected CHO K1, GS CHO or CHO-S™ cell line
• Maximum batch culture cell densities and protein titers are needed
• You have time to adapt cells into a new medium in an effort to maximize titers
• Cell health at harvest is a priority for downstream processing

Consider CD OptiCHO™ medium when:
• You are using a transfected CHO cell line other than CHO K1, GS CHO or CHO-S™ cell lines
• Optimization of feeding strategies will be part of your base medium selection testing in an effort to maximize productivity
• Your CHO cell line is “finicky," i.e. hard to grow or adapt

CD BHK-21 Production Medium (Gibco™)

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is a chemically defined, protein-free cell culture medium. It is designed to support the growth of BHK-21 cells in serum-free suspension culture. This medium is suitable for large-scale manufacturing applications.

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is the first cell culture medium supporting complete serum-free and protein-free processes for BHK-21 cells. The dry powder format is easy to reconstitute, since it has no hydrolysates in the formulation. Adapting cells from serum-containing media is a rapid and simple procedure. BHK-21 cells can achieve high cell densities and maintain high cell viability in this medium.

Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium is suitable for large-scale suspension culture. Because it does not require supplementation with serum or other undefined components, Gibco® CD BHK-21 Production Medium eliminates the risks associated with serum, while allowing you to achieve consistent virus titers and simplifying downstream purification.

Schneider's Drosophila Medium (Gibco™)

Schneider's Drosophila Medium was originally designed for the growth of S2 cells from the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaser. Schneider's Drosophila Medium can also be used to culture other dipteran cell lines. This medium can be used for transient or stable transfection and large scale protein production in S2 cells. We offer a variety of Gibco® Media options for a range of insect cell culture applications.

Formulation
This Schneider's Drosophila Medium is modified; it contains L-glutamine and sodium bicarbonate. The complete formulation is available. Schneider's Drosophila Medium contains unique components required for S2 cell culture, including malic acid, fumaric acid, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, succinic acid, and the sugar trehelose.

Gibco® Schneider’s Drosophila Medium is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility located in Paisley, Scotland, UK. The facility is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and is certified to the ISO 13485 standard.

Schneider's Drosophila Medium is commonly supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) before use. Schneider's Drosophila Medium requires ambient CO2 in order to maintain physiological pH.

Sf-900™ III SFM (Gibco™)

Sf-900™ III SFM is a low-hydrolysate, serum-free, protein-free, animal origin–free insect cell culture medium optimized for the growth and maintenance of Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9 and Sf21) cells and for recombinant gene expression using the baculovirus and stable insect expression systems. This medium is suitable for suspension and monolayer culture methods and supports growth of other lepidopteran cell lines.

Superior long-term, high-density growth
Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) cells grown in Sf-900™ III SFM achieve maximum cell densities of 10 to 14 × 106 cells/mL, a significant improvement over Sf-900™ II SFM and other commercially available serum-free media.

Optimized for recombinant protein production
Traditionally, Grace's medium supplemented with 10% FBS has been used for recombinant protein expression. Sf-900™ III SFM is an improved serum-free, protein-free, animal origin–free medium designed for growth of Sf9 and other lepidopteran cell lines and production of insect viruses and recombinant proteins.

Gibco® Sf-900™ III SFM is a serum-free, protein-free, animal origin–free medium that allows for much easier purification of your protein of interest. FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium is an animal origin–free, chemically defined, protein-free medium specifically developed to support the growth and transfection of 293-F cells in suspension without adaptation. Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium is ready to use. It does not require the addition of serum, glutamine, or surfactants. Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium contains GlutaMAX™ supplement to minimize toxic ammonia build-up and improve cell viability and growth in an easy-to-use format.

Ability to support suspension growth and transfection of 293-F cells
Gibco® 293-F, 293-H, and FreeStyle™ 293-F cells in suspension can be cultured directly into Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium without adaptation. Cells adapted to other commercially available serum-free media can be subcultured directly into Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium, usually without any further adaptation. Cells usually require adaptation from serum-containing formulations. Cells cultured in Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium can be transfected using lipid based transfection reagents, such as 293fectin™ reagent and Freestyle™ MAX reagent.

The FreeStyle™ 293 Expression System is a complete, suspension cell culture system for generating large amounts of mammalian recombinant protein (see figure). The FreeStyle™ 293 Expression System combines Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium with 293fectin™ reagent, a cationic-lipid formulation designed to transfect suspension FreeStyle™ 293-F cells at high efficiency. The FreeStyle™ MAX Expression System is a breakthrough technology for rapid and high-yield mammalian protein production. Scalability in spinner flasks and bioreactors
Protein production using Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium can be scaled up in spinner flasks or bioreactors. The appropriate spinner or impeller speed and seeding density should be optimized for each system. Depending on the impeller design and speed, it may be necessary to supplement Gibco® FreeStyle™ 293 Expression Medium with additional Pluronic® F-68 to avoid sheer stress in the culture.

CD FortiCHO™ Medium (Gibco™)

CD FortiCHO™ medium is specifically designed to offer the highest batch and fed-batch culture performance and yield with recombinant CHO cells in a chemically defined environment. The protein-free, animal origin component-free formulation provides consistency and helps reduce the need to screen for adventitious agents. With CD FortiCHO™ medium cell cultures last 2+ days longer than competitive alternatives, which means decreased HCP (Host Cell Protein) concentration for removal in downstream purification.

CD FortiCHO™ medium is fortified to support maximal recombinant CHO cell growth and protein expression in suspension batch culture, offering 120% greater growth and production than select competitive media with simple glucose supplementation. CD FortiCHO™ medium can provide up to 75% greater fed-batch growth and production over glucose-only fed-batch culture for selected cell lines and applications when used with CD EfficientFeed™ C nutrient supplement.

Essential 8™ Adaptation Kit (Gibco™)

The Essential 8™ Adaptation Kit includes Essential 8™ Medium and recombinant human Laminin 521 (rhLaminin-521) for optimal survival during transition from feeder-dependent to feeder-free culture. rhLaminin-521 has been proven to promote cellular survival under stressful conditions in the absence of small molecule inhibitors. In addition, rhLaminin-521 has been shown to support PSC growth for >20 passages without any signs of karyotypic abnormalities and to maintain the ability of PSCs to differentiate into all three germ line lineages. rhLaminin-521 can also be purchased separately.

CTS™ Opti-MEM™ I Medium

CTS Opti-MEM I Medium is an improved minimal essential medium (MEM) that is recommended for use with the CTS LV-MAX Transfection Kit as a complexation buffer. This medium contains insulin, transferrin, hypoxanthine, thymidine, and trace elements. CTS Opti-MEM I uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (2.4 g/L), and therefore requires a 5–10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH. The formulation of CTS Opti-MEM I is identical to research-grade Opti-MEM I Reduced Serum Medium.

CTS Opti-MEM I is xeno-free and contains human transferrin.

CTS Opti-MEM I is manufactured in conformity with cGMP for medical devices, 21 CFR, Part 820, and certified to the ISO 13485. Drug Master File and Regulatory Support File available upon request.

Neurobasal™-A Medium, no D-glucose, no sodium pyruvate (Gibco™)

Neurobasal-A medium without D-glucose and sodium pyruvate is used to support the growth of post-natal CNS neurons in applications where the presence of D-glucose and sodium pyruvate can cause interference.

For neural studies that require the absence of insulin, glucose, and sodium pyruvate, such as glucose response or insulin response studies, we recommend Gibco B-27 Supplement Minus Insulin as a supplement to this medium.

Neurobasal Medium is suitable for use in most neuronal cell applications. For other applications, we provide alternative formulations of Neurobasal media and B-27 supplements.
