PureLink™ Plant RNA Reagent (Invitrogen™)

Plant RNA Reagent is a single-component solution optimized for the isolation of high yields of high-quality total RNA from a variety of plant tissues, especially those rich in polyphenolics (e.g., conifer needles) or starch (e.g., potato tuber or seeds). Features of the Plant RNA Reagent:

• Isolate high-quality RNA from difficult plant materials
• Use for small-scale and large-scale RNA isolations

Improved quality and purity of plant RNA
Plant RNA Reagent is optimized to have less sample DNA contamination, to be twice as effective as TRIzol® Reagent, and have a simplified RNA extraction protocol for minimized time and labor. The end result is high-yield, high-purity RNA (determined by A260/A280 and gel analysis) from a variety of plant material sources.

Works for milligram to gram quantities of starting material
Plant RNA Reagent provides greater flexibility for sample size and processing formats, and can be used for both small-scale (up to 0.1 g plant tissue) and large-scale (0.1–5 g plant tissue) total RNA isolation. The amount supplied (100 mL) is sufficient for 200 reactions using 100 mg of tissue, or 4 reactions using 5 g of tissue.

TRIzol™ Reagent and Phasemaker™ Tubes Complete System (Invitrogen™)

This system includes both TRIzol™ Reagent and Invitrogen™ Phasemaker™ Tubes.

TRIzol Reagent is a complete, ready-to-use reagent for the isolation of high-quality total RNA from a variety of biological samples. It offers superior lysis capability, even with difficult sample types.

Phasemaker Tubes contain a thick liquid polymer that separates and completely isolates the upper aqueous phase of the TRIzol Reagent mix from the organic phase underneath, greatly simplifying removal of the upper phase containing the RNA. This TRIzol Reagent and Phasemaker Tubes Complete System is for the extraction of RNA, not DNA or protein. It will accommodate 50–100 mg of tissue. For cultured cells, please refer to the manual for information on sample size.

TRIzol™ LS Reagent and Phasemaker™ Tubes Complete System (Invitrogen™)

This system includes both TRIzol™ LS Reagent and Invitrogen™ Phasemaker™ Tubes.

TRIzol LS Reagent is a complete, ready-to-use reagent for the isolation of high-quality total RNA from a variety of liquid biological samples such as serum and virus preparations.

Phasemaker Tubes contain a thick liquid polymer that separates and completely isolates the upper aqueous phase of the TRIzol Reagent mix from the organic phase underneath, greatly simplifying removal of the upper phase containing the RNA. This TRIzol LS Reagent and Phasemaker Tubes Complete System is for the extraction of RNA, not DNA or protein. It will accommodate approximately 0.25 mL of sample.

MagMAX™ Viral/Pathogen Binding Beads (Applied Biosystems™)

These binding beads are included in the MagMAX Viral/Pathogen Nucleic Acid Isolation kits and MagMAX Microbiome Ultra Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit (Cat. Nos. A42352, A42356, A42357, and A42358). They are made available separately for applications that require more binding beads than are provided in the kit.

Extra MagMAX FFPE DNA/RNA Ultra Reagents (Applied Biosystems™)

This package includes supplemental reagents for use with the MagMAX FFPE DNA/RNA Ultra Kit (Cat. No. A31881). These additional reagents consist of protease digestion buffer, binding solution, and DNA wash buffer and are specifically for use when processing >40 um sections. See the User Guide for details.

MagMAX CORE Nucleic Acid Purification Kit + Mechanical Lysis Module (Applied Biosystems™)

The Applied Biosystems MagMAX CORE sample preparation solution is a universal sample preparation system designed to meet current and future veterinary testing needs. This modular technology is optimized for the purification of nucleic acids from a wide range of sample matrices commonly submitted for veterinary diagnostic testing. Agarase (0.5 U/µL) (Thermo Scientific™)

Thermo Scientific Agarase is an enzyme that specifically digests the agarose polysaccharide core into neoagaro-oligosaccharides. Agarase allows for gentle yet efficient recovery of DNA or RNA fragments from low melting point agarose. The recovered nucleic acids can be directly used for amplification, cloning, sequencing, etc.

Plant DNAzol™ Reagent (Invitrogen™)

Plant DNAzol® Reagent is a ready-to-use organic reagent formulated for the isolation of high quality genomic DNA from a variety of plant samples.

RNA Hydrolysis for Efficient Isolation of Genomic DNA from a Variety of Sample Sources
Plant DNAzol® Reagent can be used for the efficient isolation of genomic DNA from a variety of plant tissues such as leaf, seed stem, root, and callus. The Plant DNAzol® procedure is based on the use of a novel guanidine-detergent lysing solution that hydrolyzes RNA and allows the selective precipitation of DNA from the lysate.

Isolate Genomic Plant DNA in About an Hour
In the Plant DNAzol® procedure, plant samples are pulverized in liquid nitrogen or homogenized, and genomic DNA is extracted from the homogenate with the Plant DNAzol® Reagent. Following extraction, plant debris is removed by centrifugation and DNA is precipitated from the supernatant with ethanol, and solubilized with TE buffer (pH 8.0). The entire procedure can be completed in approximately 60-70 minutes.

Comparable Yield in Less Time and with Fewer Reagents
Unlike traditional methods for plant DNA extraction (e.g., CTAB), Plant DNAzol® is quicker, does not require RNase A to remove RNA from genomic DNA preparations, and in the majority of tissues, does not require phenol. Furthermore, use of Plant DNAzol® generates yields from plant tissue that are comparable with the traditional CTAB method.

MagMAX CORE Glass Microbeads are offered as a supplement to the MagMAX CORE Nucleic Acid Purification Kit and the MagMAX CORE Mechanical Lysis Module. The beads aid in the homogenization of completely dessicated feces such as environmental samples or fecal pellets.
