MagMAX™ Plant DNA Isolation Kit (Applied Biosystems™)

The MagMAX™ Plant DNA Isolation Kit is designed for automated high-throughput or manual purification of DNA from a wide variety of plant species. The kit uses MagMAX magnetic bead technology, eliminating the need for phenol/chloroform extraction or alcohol precipitation. The procedures are optimized for the isolation of DNA from 10–100 mg plant samples. DNA yields vary between different species and tissues depending on genome size, ploidy, cell number, age of tissue sample, and storage conditions.

The MagMAX Plant DNA Isolation Kit relies on magnetic bead technology, enabling reproducible yields and robust performance. High binding capacity, uniform particle size, and rapid magnetic response of the beads makes the technology ideal for automated high-throughput nucleic acid purification, as well as for manual purification for low sample throughput. The resulting high-quality DNA is free of proteins, nucleases, and other contaminants or inhibitors, and can be used in a wide range of downstream applications such as PCR, qPCR, or next-generation sequencing. Benefits of MagMAX magnetic bead–based purification
The magnetic bead–based purification format of the kit allows for easy scaling of the number of samples processed either manually with a magnetic stand or with a magnetic particle processor such as the KingFisher™ Duo Prime or KingFisher™ Flex processors.

Magnetic beads offer many benefits compared to other technologies for isolating nucleic acids. Beads bind the RNA and DNA more efficiently than glass fiber filters, resulting in higher and more consistent yields. Additionally, because filters and vacuum manifolds are not used, there is no risk of undigested tissue particulates clogging these items during the extraction process. This clogging issue is of particular concern with fibrous plant tissue samples that that are not fully lysed during the disruption and homogenization steps.

Optimized bead surface chemistry
The Dynabeads™ MyOne™ Carboxylic Acid utilized in the MagMAX Plant DNA Isolation Kit has an optimized surface chemistry with high specific surface area that allows efficient kinetics and high sensitivity in nucleic acid capture. These aspects make Dynabeads magnetic technology ideal for the recovery of the DNA targets found in a variety of plant samples. Once captured, the DNA is then eluted in 150 µL and ready for downstream applications.

JetFlex™ Genomic DNA Purification Kit (Invitrogen™)

The JetFlex™ Genomic DNA Purification Kit is designed for rapid and efficient purification of genomic DNA (gDNA) from blood, body fluids (amniotic fluid, saliva, sperm, lymph), mammalian cells, tissues, plant tissues, bacteria, and yeast. Its single-tube technology allows for isolation of high quality, high molecular weight, RNA-free gDNA without the use of spin columns of a vacuum manifold.

The ChargeSwitch® Direct 96 gDNA Kit is a solid-phase, high-throughput genomic DNA (gDNA) purification system designed for rapid and efficient isolation of gDNA from fresh or frozen samples. This kit utilizes 96-well plates coated with the ChargeSwitch® nucleic acid-binding surface, whose ionic charge can be switched by changing the pH of the surrounding buffer. At low pH, the positive charge of the ChargeSwitch® surface binds the negatively charged nucleic acids. Proteins and other contaminants that do not bind are washed away, leaving pure DNA ready for downstream applications. This kit is designed for research use only (Limited Use Label License 5).

Thermo Scientific GeneJET Plant Genomic DNA Purification Mini Kit is designed for rapid and efficient purification of high quality genomic DNA from a wide variety of plant species and tissue types. It utilizes silica-based membrane technology in the form of a convenient spin column, eliminating the need for expensive resins, toxic phenol-chloroform extractions, or time-consuming alcohol precipitation.

The standard procedure takes less than 30 minutes following cell lysis and yields purified DNA greater than 30 kb in size. DNA yields vary between different species and tissues depending on genome size, ploidy, cell number, and the age of the tissue sample. The typical yield from a standard tissue source (e. g. young wheat leaves) is 30 to 32 µg from 100 mg of tissue. Isolated DNA can be used directly in PCR, qPCR, southern blotting, and enzymatic reactions.

We recommend using the MagnaRack™ Magnetic Rack, which is a two-piece magnetic separation rack that consists of a magnetic base station and a removable tube rack. The tube rack fits onto the magnetic base station in two different positions associating the row of 12 neodymium magnets with a single row of 12 tubes for simple and easy "on the magnet" and "off the magnet" sample processing.

The PureLink® Genomic DNA Mini Kit enables high-yield, high-purity, genomic DNA (gDNA) extractions from a wide variety of sample types. Use this single kit for genomic DNA purification from blood, tissues, cells, bacteria, swabs, and blood spots, with a familiar silica-based, microcentrifuge spin-column format. Optimized components and protocols
The PureLink® Genomic DNA Mini Kit includes parts and protocols that improve upon the easy and familiar spin-column methods currently in use (see figure). Columns are newly configured to bind and release DNA more efficiently (see figure). Each sample source uses a specialized lysis procedure and an optimized lysis buffer formulated to enhance proteinase K activity and eliminate protein contamination. A chaotropic salt buffer promotes stable binding of DNA to the column resin, and powerful wash buffers remove all traces of protein and salt. DNA is eluted in a low-salt buffer to allow for pH stabilization of the DNA in storage.

Higher yields and purity
With PureLink® Genomic DNA Kits you can expect high yields of high-purity gDNA (determined by A260/A280 measurements), no matter the sample type, from bacteria to tissues to blood to cultured cells (see figures). The enhanced PureLink® Lysis and Wash Buffers help to consistently deliver purified gDNA samples with absorbance reading ratios of ~1.9 for both A260/A280 and A260/A230, indicating no detectable contamination from carryover of protein or guanidine (see figure).

PrepFiler™ Automated Forensic DNA Extraction Kit, updated (Applied Biosystems™)

The PrepFiler Automated Forensic DNA Extraction Kit uses magnetic particles with an optimized multi-component surface chemistry to deliver superior DNA yield from most forensic sample types, including body fluids, and stains and swabs of body fluids. Whether it’s an automated or manual application, this kit is designed to help improve the overall yield and concentration of DNA recovered from both routine and challenging samples, while enabling removal of PCR inhibitors. This means greater quantities of highly purified DNA for improved downstream genotyping results. This kit is intended for automated workflows. For manual workflows using 1.5 mL tubes, please see the PrepFiler Forensic DNA Extraction Kit.

• The kit packaging has been updated to include all reagents, including magnetic particles, in the same kit box, with a single expiration date.
• Shipping will occur at ambient temperature, and the kits can also be stored upon receipt at ambient temperature.

Thermo Scientific GeneJET FFPE DNA Purification Kit is designed for fast and convenient purification of DNA from various amounts of archived FFPE tissue. Up to 8 sections (10 µm thickness) of FFPE sample from various tissues can be used for genomic DNA extraction without overnight incubation. Elimination of toxic reagents commonly used for deparaffinization (i.e., xylene) allows a safe DNA purification procedure with high DNA yields and excellent quality.
