The Ion S5™ Calibration Standard is a small panel consisting of known sequence content with comprehensive and uniform representation of long homopolymers up to 10-mers. The Ion S5 Calibration Standard can be used in conjunction with the Ion 520™ and Ion 530™ workflows for de novo research sequencing applications to allow for greater accuracy of base-calling.

The Ion 550 Chip generates 100–130 million sequencing reads by electronically detecting polymerase-driven base incorporation without the use of fluorescence.
