The EVOS® XL Imaging System is a fully-integrated, digital, transmitted light, inverted imaging system that combines advanced ergonomic design, an on-board microprocessor, LED illumination, sensitive color camera, and a highly streamlined user interface to deliver superior flexibility and ease-of-use. The EVOS® XL system is ideal for both demanding and routine cell culture and colorimetric sample imaging applications.

All-in One Configuration
The EVOS® XL system represents a new concept in transmitted light inverted microscopy. It is a fully integrated imaging system that combines high-quality optics, a 15" high-resolution LCD display, and a digital 3 MP CMOS color camera. Images are seamlessly acquired through the user interface using a mouse. Commitment to user-friendly design and functionality is visible in every feature—from the single switch to turn on the entire workstation to the streamlined software and user interface; the EVOS® Imaging Systems are built from the ground up to maximize performance and optimize workflow. Integrated Software
The on-board computer makes the EVOS® XL system easy to operate, and the intuitive interface facilitates image acquisition and analysis. Everything you need to acquire, manipulate, save, and transfer an image can be done right from the microscope—in one place, with one instrument. Modules include time-lapse acquisition, manual-assist cell counting, and image review. Saved user settings work in conjunction with "smart" controls to increase efficiency and ease of use. Image data are saved to a USB flash drive for easy and portable data transfer or to a Windows-networked local server. All images can be saved onto the USB device in PNG, JPEG, BMP, or TIFF formats. The captured image resolution is 2048 x 1536 pixels.

Versatile
The EVOS® XL system features an easily accessible 5-position objective turret and 4-position condenser turret. The optical system can be configured to best meet your needs using our full range of long working distance (LWD) and coverslip-corrected objectives. LWD phase contrast objectives are available from 4x to 40x, and our 2x objective allows viewing of the entire well of a 96-well plate. Coverslip-corrected, oil immersion objectives for high magnification applications are available at 50x and 100x. Lighting settings are automatically adjusted to match the objective magnification. The stage accommodates EVOS® vessel holders that perfectly fit most vessel types and sizes. Interchangeable stage plates accommodate most vessel types and sizes, including flasks, Petri dishes, multi-well plates, and slides.

These features make the EVOS® XL system ideal for a range of applications that include routine cell and tissue culture, cell confluence determination, stem cell growth and differentiation, and developmental biology and tissue slice analyses. And the compact footprint makes it as easy to use the EVOS® XL system in a cell culture hood as on the bench.

Easy to Use and Reliable
The EVOS® XL Imaging System is plug-and-play. In addition to an exceptionally easy set-up and installation, it requires no warm-up or cool-down periods. The LED light source offers outstanding stability and durability, so you can turn the unit on and off whenever you need to image a sample. The environmentally safe mercury-free LED bulbs are rated for >50,000 hours (~17 years) of life, compared to 300 hours for a typical mercury bulb and 1,500 hours for a metal halide bulb. The long life and low energy consumption translate into significantly lower operating costs compared to instruments with conventional light sources. Finally, the advanced ergonomic design of the EVOS® Imaging Systems removes the strain associated with conventional systems, enables shared viewing, and makes moving the unit easy. For extended or precision use, the EVOS® arm rest provides comfortable support.

Fully Automated Imaging System
The EVOS® FL Auto system combines and integrates precision components with a unique design functionality that enables high-quality automated fluorescence imaging with superior work-flow efficiency. Full automation of the precision X/Y-stage movement; automated changes of up to 4 LED fluorescence light cubes and 5 parfocal objectives, focus, and exposure; and dual camera switching makes the EVOS® FL Auto system an exceptional platform for a variety of demanding imaging applications. Program the EVOS® FL Auto system to run acquisition routines, 8-point time lapse experiments, and tile-stitch scans in nearly any vessel through the sensitive touch-screen display.

Versatile and Highly Configurable
With a 5-position objective turret and 4 fluorescence light cube positions, the optical system can be easily configured to meet your needs. Choose from our full range of high-quality objectives from 2x to 100x magnification, and over a dozen LED light cubes. The EVOS® FL Auto system automatically adjusts the lighting settings to match the objective magnification. Dual cameras with a Sony ICX445 CCD monochrome and a high sensitivity CMOS color digital camera enable seamless imaging of both fluorescent and colorimetrically stained samples. Interchangeable stage plates and vessel holders accommodate most vessel types and sizes, including multi-well plates, slides, culture flasks, and Petri dishes, and afford precise control and sample alignment by the automated stage.

Smart LED Illumination Technology
All EVOS® fluorescence imaging systems utilize our unique, proprietary LED light cubes. This world-leading light engine outputs remarkable intensity over a short light-path that delivers superior fluorophore excitation. Each light cube contains a precisely matched set of optical components to optimize the position, evenness, and intensity of the light beam. Digitally controlled LED light sources allow adjustment of illumination levels, dramatically improving control over photobleaching. Hard-coated filters give sharper edges and significantly higher transmission efficiencies than traditional soft-coated filters.

Fully Integrated Environmental Control System
When used with the EVOS® Onstage Incubator (available separately), the EVOS® FL Auto Imaging System affords a complete solution for environmental control during live cell imaging studies. Specifically designed for use with the EVOS® FL Auto system, the incubator consists of an environmental control unit and an environmental chamber that is precision-tooled for the automated X-Y stage. A small, separate control unit supplies the power, gas (air or air-CO2 premix, CO2, and N2 for O2 displacement in hypoxia experiments), and control of humidity and temperature. Unlike many other systems that require separate software modules or control units, the EVOS® Onstage Incubator is operated through the EVOS® FL Auto interface. Following a simple installation, the incubator is automatically recognized by the imaging software and is ready for use.

The EVOS® FL Auto system is powered by an associated PC that controls the fully automated imaging system, including creating, saving, and running routines and experiments, as well as image editing and manipulation. The EVOS FL Auto 2 software has been completely rewritten, presenting users with a new experience and many new tools for acquisition, visualization, and analysis. Examples include a novel concept of giving users an option of viewing samples in a single field mode (Field View) and also a window that covers a much larger area (Area View). By using a zoom function, the Area View size can be adjusted. A user can, for example, explore a large sample like a tissue slice, define regions of interest, and then seamlessly transition to the Scan function in Automate Mode and execute the scan, at higher magnification if desired. The enhanced power of the EVOS FL Auto 2 system enables more demanding automated acquisition routines like area scanning in time lapse and Z-stacks in scan mode to be performed. New visualization capabilities include multi-field image viewing gallery, mosaic tiling and tile stitching options, contrast stretching, Z-stack visualization, a video recording and a movie maker/editor for time lapse sequences. EVOS FL Auto 2 system is fully compatible with the EVOS Onstage Incubator environmental chamber for control of temperature, gases, and humidity. With the ability generate both hypoxic and normoxic conditions it is possible to study live cells over extended periods with highly flexible time lapse automation routines.

For users needing more powerful image analysis capabilities, images acquired on the EVOS FL Auto 2 system can be analyzed directly using the optional Celleste Image Analysis Software. Celleste software offers powerful tools for image segmentation and classification that can be used for cell counting; measuring intensity, area, and shape changes over time; and more.

Smart LED illumination technology
All EVOS fluorescence imaging systems utilize our proprietary LED light cubes. This light engine outputs remarkable intensity over a short light-path and delivers incomparable fluorophore excitation. Each light cube contains a precisely matched set of optical components to optimize the position, evenness, and intensity of the light beam. Digitally controlled LED light sources allow adjustment of illumination levels to the sample and experimental conditions to minimize the risk of photo-toxicity and photo-bleaching in time-lapse studies. Hard-coated filters give sharper edges and significantly higher transmission efficiencies than traditional soft-coated filters.

The EVOS FL Auto 2 Imaging System is powerful, yet offers the simplicity of plug-and-play. Like other EVOS systems, it requires no warm-up or cool-down periods. The LED light source guarantees exceptional stability and durability—so you can turn the unit on and off whenever you need to image a sample. The environmentally safe, mercury-free LED bulbs are rated for >50,000 hours, compared to 300 hours for a typical mercury bulb and 1,500 hours for a metal halide bulb. The EVOS FL Auto 2 system is powered by an associated PC with 16 GB RAM. Whether acquiring single images or setting up automated routines, the EVOS FL Auto 2 system is remarkably easy to use and run. Versatile
The four-position objective turret can be configured to best meet your needs using our full range of long working distance (LWD) and coverslip-corrected objectives. LWD objectives are available from 4x to 40x, and our 2x objective allows viewing of the entire well of a 96-well plate. The compact footprint makes it easy to use the EVOS® XL Core system wherever needed; the entire system can be easily moved into a cell culture hood or glove box. The FLoid® Cell Imaging Station is a fully integrated devise seamlessly combining high-quality optics, detection in three fluorescence channels as well as transmitted light, a widescreen LCD monitor, camera, image acquisition/processing software, and reagent information and protocols. It features a fixed, high-quality 20x plan fluorite objective, with additional magnification obtainable using the digital zoom. Fluorescence is captured in the three most commonly used channels (DAPI, FITC, and Texas Red filters). Transmitted light images automatically show cells in excellent contrast through a relief phase design, without loss of light. With its innovative light shield, ambient light is blocked so the FLoid® Cell Imaging Station can be placed wherever you need it most - in the tissue culture room, among other cell-based assay instruments, or on your lab bench. FLoid® Cell Imaging Station lets you bring imaging out of the darkroom.

Versatile and Easy to Use
The FLoid® Cell Imaging Station uses an open-stage design providing maximum vessel flexibility for slides, multi-well culture dishes, or even T75 flasks. A focus assist scale makes it easy to find the focus plane. Once samples are in focus, you can use the mouse to change light intensity and switch colors; there is also a scale bar that changes as the digital zoom level is changed, making it easy to estimate and compare sample sizes. The absolute magnification span is from 460X up to 1,840X using the digital zoom. Images can be printed directly using the optional printer, or saved for viewing in one of the four formats (JPEG, TIFF, BMP, or PNG) at a later time or with other software. With printer you can generate sticker-backed prints for immediate notebook mounting. The FLoid® Printer is not included with the FLoid® Cell Imaging Station and must be purchased separately.
