Simplify the Ion Torrent NGS workflow
The Ion Chef System simplifies the Ion Torrent next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflow by integrating several manual and instrument steps into a single process. The Ion Chef System workflow now incorporates all steps of library preparation (targeted PCR amplification with respective primer panel, partial digestion of primer sequences, adapter/barcode ligation, purification, library equalization and pooling), as well as all steps of template preparation and chip loading. Ultra Turrax™ Tube Drive from IKA™ for PGM™ System (Ion Torrent™)

The ULTRA-TURRAX® Tube Drive from IKA® for the Personal Genome Machine™System is a sample preparation instrument for use in the Personal Genome Machine™ sequencing workflow. Ion Chip™ Minifuge, 230 V (Ion Torrent™)

The personal-sized Ion Chip™ MiniFuge is designed and calibrated specifically for centrifugation of Ion PGM™/Ion Proton™ chips, enabling effective and efficient sample loading. The MiniFuge features a compact design with a small footprint. The cylindrical shape of the Ion Chip™ Minifuge allows it to accommodate both the Ion PGM™ and the larger Ion Proton™ chips. The unit quickly accelerates to maximum speed and stops quickly.

The Ion Chip™ Minifuge is supplied with one Ion PGM™ rotor and two Ion PGM™ chip buckets. An Ion Proton™ rotor and chip buckets are not included with this unit, but are included with the Ion Proton™ System and installed in the MiniFuge by the field service engineer at the time of system installation.

The Ion Chip™ Minifuge features an on/off power switch for basic operational control. With the switch in the "on" position, the rotor starts spinning when the transparent lid is closed. The rotor will stop spinning when the lid release button is pressed. The Ion Chip™ Minifuge requires less than six square inches of bench space.

Hydroshear DNA Shearing Device (230 V) (Applied Biosystems™)

The Hydroshear® is a reproducible and controllable method for generating random DNA fragments of specific sizes used for mate-paired library preparations in the SOLiD™ System and 5500 series Genetic Analyzers. This instument includes the Hydroshear® for use with 230V.

The AB Library Builder™ System simplifies next-generation sequencing by providing a semi-automated solution for DNA fragment library preparation for the SOLiD™ 4 System and 5500 Series Genetic Analysis Systems. The AB Library Builder™ System is designed to increase throughput and reduce labor associated with library preparation for exome and targeted resequencing applications. In the time needed to prepare 8 libraries manually, the AB Library Builder™ System can prepare 13 libraries.

Reagents kits for DNA fragment library creation using the AB Library Builder™ are available for purchase separately. SOLiD™ EZ Bead™ Emulsifier (110/220 V) (Applied Biosystems™)

This is the Emulsifier component of the SOLiD™ EZ Bead™ System. The Emulsifier combines an aqueous phase with an oil phase, creating a microreactor emulsion, bringing the necessary reagents and components for amplifying the library of interest onto a solid surface. This process takes up to 30 minutes to complete, depending on the desired bead yield.

Ion OneTouch™ 2 System (Ion Torrent™)

The Ion OneTouch 2 System performs template amplification and enrichment as part of the manual workflow for the Ion PGM, Ion Proton, and Ion S5 and Ion S5 XL systems. It provides scalable template preparation for all Ion semiconductor chips. With its small footprint, the system fits easily on any bench top.

Efficiency and flexibility
The Ion OneTouch 2 System integrates multiple manual template preparation steps into a single system. This enables parallel processing of multiple samples per day through modular design. It is flexible and supports scalable template preparation for all Ion semiconductor sequencing chips with up to 400 bases on the Ion 520/530 chips, up to 200 bases on the Ion 540 chip, up to 400 bases on the Ion PGM System, and up to 200 bases on the Ion Proton System. The need for gas is eliminated by the use of a peristaltic pump.

System components
The Ion OneTouch 2 System consists of two modules: the Ion OneTouch 2 Instrument and the Ion OneTouch ES (Enrichment System). The Ion OneTouch 2 Instrument may be purchased separately.

Contributing technologies
At the heart of the Ion OneTouch 2 Instrument are three breakthrough technologies that enable automated delivery of the template Ion Sphere particles. The first is the reaction filter that creates millions of microreactors in which clonal amplification occurs. The second is the fully integrated thermal cycler and disposable path amplification plate that enables robust thermal cycling of the microreactors. The third is the integrated centrifuge, which recovers the template Ion Sphere particles. Altogether this allows the instrument to deliver massively parallel clonal amplification and recovery, all in a small bench top footprint.

Covaris™ M220 NGS microTUBE Starter Kit, 15–130 μL (Ion Torrent™)

The Covaris™ M220 NGS 15–130 µL microTUBE Starter Kit is for use with the Covaris™ M220 Focused-ultrasonicator™ instrument. The instrument is designed for next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications that require high-quality DNA fragmentation for library preparation, making it a superior choice for Ion PGM™ Sequencer users. It enables tight DNA fragment distributions tunable between 150 and 1,500 bp.

The starter kit includes a microTUBE holder, 25 screw-cap microTUBEs optimized for 15 µL samples, 25 screw-cap microTUBEs optimized for 50 µL samples, and 25 snap-cap microTUBEs optimized for 130 µL samples. In contrast, the KingFisher Flex 96 Deep-well Head Magnetic Particle Processor utilizes permanent rods to collect the magnetic beads from solution and releases the beads into a well containing reagents for the next step of isolation. The effectiveness of bead collection and transfer leads to superior washing, elution efficiency, and processing. Covaris® Adaptive Focused Acoustics® (AFA) Technology
Covaris® AFA technology transmits acoustic energy at ultrasonic frequencies (500 KHz) and very short wavelengths (~3 mm), focusing the energy into the sample and precisely controlling the shearing forces that fragment nucleic acids to the selected size. SonoLab® Software
The Covaris® M220 is controlled though SonoLab® software. The software includes DNA shearing protocols for 50 and 130 µl samples and for fragment-size distributions ranging from 150 to 5,000 bp, as well as chromatin shearing protocols. Updated protocols can be downloaded directly from www.covarisinc.com. SonoLab® software also stores historical information. For every sample processed, Date and Time, User Name, AFA Settings, Actual Power Delivered, Bath Temperature, and customizable Sample Notes are recorded, so sample tracking is easy.

SOLiD™ EZ Bead™ Enricher (110/220 V) (Applied Biosystems™)

The Enricher component of the SOLiD™ EZ Bead™ System releases beads from the amplified reaction mixture and then selects for and retains only those beads which are templated. This process is completed within 3.5 hours.
