Daughter E-Base™ device (Invitrogen™)

E-Base™ Integrated Devices

E-Base™ Integrated Devices are specially designed for running E-Gel® 48, E-Gel®96, E-PAGE™ 48 and E-PAGE™ 96 gels. Each device features a small foot-print for space saving, and a built-in power supply.

Two types of bases are offered:

1. The Mother E-Base™ device (Cat. No. EB-M03) comes with a power cord that can be connected directly to an electrical outlet and is used for electrophoresis of one gel

2. The Daughter E-Base™ device (Cat. No. EB-D03) connects to the Mother E-Base™ and to other Daughter E-Base™ devices for the simultaneous electrophoresis of two or more gels. The Daughter E-Base™ device does not connect with a power cord and cannot be used without a Mother E-Base™ device.

Each E-Base™ device has a power/program button and a timer button on the lower right side for controlling the electrophoresis run. The lower left side of each device contains a lighted LED and a digital timer display (00-99) that indicates where your gel is in the running process. Two programs are pre-set in the E-Base™ devices, one each for E-Gel® and E-PAGE™ gels.

Note: The E-PAGE™ 96 gel is not compatible with older models of the devices (E-Gel® 96 mother and daughter bases). The older models cannot be used in combination with the Mother and Daughter E-Base™ devices.

E-Holder™ platform
The E-Holder™ platform (EH-03) is compatible in size with standard automated systems for convenient loading of samples in a hands-free robot environment when the use of the E-Base™ devices is not practical or while in queue for its availability.

E-Gel® 48 Medium Throughput DNA Electrophoresis System
E-Gel® 48 gels are ready-to-use, precast agarose gels designed for medium throughput analysis of PCR products and DNA fragments. All E-Gel® gels include a gel matrix and electrodes packaged inside a disposable, UV-transparent cassette. E-Gel® 48 gels are incorporated with ethidium bromide, and contain 2 rows of wells, with 24 sample wells and 2 marker wells per row. Samples have a run length of 3.2 cm. E-Gel® 48 gels can be loaded using multichannel pipettors or automated liquid handling systems*. DNA bands resolve clearly in just 20 minutes or less. For precise and effortless tracking of gels, each cassette is individually labeled with an EAN39 bar code that is recognized by most commercially available robotic bar code readers.

E-Gel® 96 High Throughput DNA Electrophoresis System
Ready-to-use, precast E-Gel® 96 gels are designed for fast, high throughput DNA electrophoresis. Like all E-Gel® gels, E-Gel® 96 gels include a gel matrix and electrodes packaged inside a disposable, UV-transparent cassette. Each gel contains 96 sample wells and 8 marker wells arranged in a patented staggered format that provides samples with a 1.6 cm run length. The gels are compatible with 8-, 12-, and 96-tip automated loading robots to provide optimum performance and resolution. With just 12-minute run times, up to 20,000 samples can be run in a single day, saving weeks of screening time. As with E-Gel® 48 gels, each cassette is individually labeled with an EAN39 bar code that is recognized by most commercially available robotic bar code readers. E-Gel® 96 gels are offered with a choice of ethidium bromide or SYBR® Safe DNA Gel Stain incorporated in them.

E-PAGE™ High-Throughput Protein Electrophoresis System
The E-PAGE™ High-Throughput (HTP) Protein Electrophoresis System is the only system available for fast, bufferless, high-throughput protein analysis. It consists of E-PAGE™ 96 gels, E-Base™ integrated devices, the E-Holder™ platform, and the free E-Editor™ 2.0 software.

E-PAGE™ 96 Gels
E-PAGE™ 96 gels are self-contained, pre-cast gels that include a gel matrix and electrodes packaged inside a disposable, UV-transparent cassette. Each E-PAGE™ 96 gel contains 96 sample lanes and 8 marker lanes in a patented staggered well format with a 1.6 cm run length (Figure 1). The well openings of the E-PAGE™ 96 cassette are compatible with the standard 96-well plate format and can be conveniently loaded with a multichannel pipettor or 8-, 12-, or 96-tip liquid-handling robotic devices. E-PAGE™ 96 cassettes are conveniently opened with a butterfly opener to remove the gel for staining or blotting. In addition, each E-PAGE™ 96 cassette is labeled with an individual barcode to facilitate identification of the gel using commercial barcode readers.

E-Editor™ 2.0 Software
The E-Editor™ 2.0 software is designed for fast and convenient analysis of results from E-Gel® 96 and E-PAGE™ 96 gels and blots. Using the digital image of the gel, the software reconfigures the staggered lanes into one regrouped and aligned image for easy comparison, documentation, and reference with the original plate coordinates, allowing quick identification of important results. E-Editor™ 2.0 software is available for free.

The ZOOM® Dual Power is a microprocessor-controlled programmable power supply capable of running both high voltage/low current and high current/low voltage applications concurrently. The high voltage/low current section is ideal for sample fractionation, IPG strips, IEF, and DNA sequencing applications. The low voltage/high current section is for SDS-PAGE, native PAGE, second-dimension SDS-PAGE, DNA/RNA electrophoresis, and blotting applications. Four sets of output jacks on each side of the unit allow for multiple apparatus to run simultaneously, offering greater workflow efficiency and higher sample throughput. Some of the important features of the ZOOM® Dual Power unit include:
