Filtering Flasks

Use filtering flasks, also known as vacuum flasks, Buchner flasks, suction flasks, Kitasato flasks or side-arm flasks, for rapid filtration of liquids in numerous general laboratory procedures. The typical flask design has a conical shape with a flat bottom, tapered neck, and a sidearm for use in vacuum filtration. The thick walls of the flasks can withstand pressure under vacuum. Flasks, which can also be manufactured from polystyrene, are available in a variety of volumes and socket sizes, as well as graduated or ungraduated formats. Flasks may be used with accessories, such as a Buchner funnel that is fitted through a rubber bung or a Buchner ring. Sidearms may be part of the flask or detachable, with barb-like rings on the tip to allow for connection to vacuum tubing. Replace glass flasks with shatter-proof, autoclavable Thermo Scientific™ Nalgene™ Polypropylene Vacuum Flasks, which are molded in one piece for full vacuum service with angled tubulation to prevent tipping.
