Novex™ Semi-Dry Blotter Invitrogen™

The Novex® Semi-Dry Blotter quickly and efficiently transfers proteins and nucleic acids from mini and midi gels to membranes. Simultaneous transfer can be achieved from up to 2 midi gels, 4 mini gels, or 2 E-PAGE™ gels. The Novex® Semi-Dry Blotter is designed for fast set-up and ease of use. The platinum-coated titanium anode plate and stainless steel cathode plate provide fast and efficient electroblotting using less transfer buffer than wet (tank) blotting methods.

The Novex® Semi-Dry Blotter is designed for convenience and efficiency:
• Economical – Horizontal configuration requires less than 200 ml of buffer to transfer
• High-capacity – A large, 20 x 20 cm transfer surface allows up to two midi gels or four mini gels to be transferred at one time
• Flexible – Field strength across the blot is maximized and evenly distributed, for efficient and complete transfers regardless of the number and size of gels blotted
• Durable – Stainless steel and platinum-coated titanium electrodes allow for corrosion-free operation
• Fast – Blotting is typically completed in 30-60 min

A Complete Western Blotting System
We offer precut (8.3 cm × 7.3 cm) and pre-assembled membranes and filter paper sandwiches (available separately) to further simplify and speed the western blotting process. Choose between Invitrolon™ PVDF (LC2002 or LC2005), or nitrocellulose (LC2000 or LC2001) containing sandwiches.

The Novex® Semi-Dry Blotter requires an external power supply for operation (up to 800 mA, depending on the number and size of blots).

Nitrocellulose membrane
The nitrocellulose membrane (0.2-µm pore size) in this stack is composed of 100% pure nitrocellulose to provide high-quality transfer. The membrane is compatible with commonly used detection methods such as staining, immunodetection, fluorescence, and radiolabeling. The proteins bind to the membrane due to hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions. The protein-binding capacity is 209 µg/cm2.

iBlot™ Transfer Stack, PVDF, regular size Invitrogen™

The iBlot® Transfer Stacks are used to transfer proteins using the iBlot® Gel Transfer Device. The iBlot® Transfer Stacks are disposable stacks that come in three varieties for different applications: iBlot® Gel Transfer Stacks have integrated PVDF or nitrocellulose transfer membranes to perform dry blotting of proteins, iBlot® DNA Transfer Stacks have an integrated nylon transfer membrane to perform dry blotting of DNA, and iBlot® Western Detection Stacks are used to perform Western detection on previously blotted nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes. Each iBlot® Transfer Stack contains a copper electrode and appropriate cathode and anode buffers in the gel matrix to allow fast, reliable transfer of proteins or DNA.

PVDF membrane
The PVDF membrane (0.2 µm pore size, low fluorescence) in this stack has higher binding capacity than nitrocellulose. The PVDF membrane is preactivated and ready for use without any pretreatment with alcohols. The membrane is compatible with commonly used detection methods such as staining, immunodetection, fluorescence, or radiolabeling. The proteins bind to the membrane due to hydrophobic interactions. The protein binding capacity is 240 µg/cm2.

Transfer stack sizes
The regular size (13 cm x 8.3 cm) is used for all Novex® midi-gel types (or equivalent) and E-PAGE™ 48 or 96 Gels. The mini size (8 cm x 8 cm) is used for all Novex® mini-gels (or equivalent).

How the iBlot 2 Dry Blotting System works
Buffer ion reservoirs are incorporated into the gel matrix of transfer stacks instead of buffer tanks or soaked papers. The high density of ions in the gel matrix enables rapid protein transfer. During blotting, the copper anode does not generate oxygen gas as a result of water electrolysis, reducing blot distortion (conventional protein transfer techniques, including wet, semi-wet, and semi-dry, use inert electrodes that generate oxygen). With the iBlot 2 Dry Blotting System, transfer time is reduced by the shortened distance between electrodes, high field strength, and high current. Trapped air bubbles, often created during the manual preparation of the blotting sandwich layers, are easy to avoid due to our unique de-bubbling design that promotes even and complete transfer. With the iBlot 2 system, there is no need to prepare buffers, pre-treat your gel, or clean up after blotting. The total preparation and run time is normally less than ten minutes per blot.

SureLock™ Tandem Transfer Tray Invitrogen™

The Invitrogen SureLock Tandem Transfer Tray is used to facilitate wet transfer of midi gels using the SureLock Tandem Blot Module and SureLock Tandem Midi Gel Tank. The tray has two compartments: the front compartment is used to soak sponge pads and filter papers, and the back compartment is used to position the SureLock Tandem Blot Module to build a transfer stack. The tray has graphics showing the correct orientation for stack assembly and two pour spouts for spill proof pouring of transfer buffer.

About the SureLock Tandem Midi Blot Module
The SureLock Tandem Midi Blot Module is a wet transfer device used exclusively with the SureLock Tandem Midi Gel Tank. The tank accommodates one blot module per chamber, or two blot modules total. The SureLock Tandem Midi Blot Module is compatible with all Invitrogen midi gels (blot size: 8.5 cm x 14 cm). The blot module accommodates one midi gel per wet transfer. The unique design make the module easy to use, while the efficient size of the inner core uses less transfer buffer per transfer (only ~300 mL per transfer). Since transfer buffer contains methanol, this also results in less hazardous waste requiring special disposal. At the recommended conditions and constant voltage, proteins can be transferred to nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes in 30 minutes and at room temperature.
