DNA Retardation Gels (6%), 1.0 mm, 15 well Invitrogen™

Novex® TBE Gels provide the highest resolution possible for analyzing restriction digests and PCR products. DNA fragments ranging from 10 to 3,000 base pairs are clearly resolved into sharp, tight bands. Novex® DNA Retardation gels are prepared with 0.5X TBE as the gel buffer. This is sufficient for good electrophoretic separation, yet low enough to promote DNA-protein interactions. Novex® TBE and DNA Retardation Gels are designed to run on the XCell SureLock™ Mini-Cell.

Formulation: Novex® TBE and DNA Retardation Gels are manufactured with high-purity tris base, boric acid, EDTA, acrylamide, bisacrylamide, TEMED, and APS.

Recommended Buffers: For optimum performance, Novex® TBE Running Buffer and Novex® Hi-Density TBE Sample Buffer are strongly recommended for use with these gels. Novex® Hi-Density TBE Sample Buffer contains the density agent Ficoll™, which yields sharper, straighter bands than conventional density agents, and the tracking dyes Bromophenol Blue and Xylene Cyanol.

GeneRuler Low Range DNA Ladder Thermo Scientific™

Thermo Scientific GeneRuler Low Range DNA Ladder is recommended for sizing and approximate quantification of a double-stranded DNA in the range of 25 bp to 700 bp on agarose or polyacrylamide gels. The DNA ladder consists of 10 DNA fragments and is provided with 6X TriTrack DNA Loading Dye.

Highlights of Low Range DNA Ladder
Easy visualization—three-color tracking of DNA migration during electrophoresis with 6X TriTrack DNA Loading Dye (contains Xylene Cyanol FF, Bromophenol Blue, and Orange G)
Simplicity—one loading dye for a variety of samples
Sharp bands—clear results with mixtures of individual chromatography-purified DNA fragments

Product use
This double-stranded DNA ladder is compatible with 3% standard and precast agarose slab gels and can be visualized after ethidium bromide or SYBR Safe staining. A uniform intensity of bands and bright reference bands allow easy sizing and orientation. A defined amount of DNA in each band enables approximate quantification of sample DNA.

Novex™ 10 to 20%, Tricine, 1.0 mm, Mini Protein Gel, 12-well Invitrogen™

Invitrogen Novex Tricine Gels provide separation of low molecular weight proteins and peptides. The Tricine system is a modification of the tris-glycine discontinuous buffer system developed by Schaegger and von Jagow (Schaegger and von Jagow, 1987) specifically for resolving peptides and low molecular weight proteins. In this system the tricine replaces the glycine in the running buffer, resulting in more efficient stacking and destacking for low molecular weight proteins and higher resolution of smaller peptides.

Features of Novex Tricine protein gels:
• Increased resolution of proteins with molecular weights as low as 2 kDa
• Improved compatibility with direct sequencing of proteins after transferring to PVDF
• Minimized protein modification due to the lower pH of the tricine buffering system

Formulation: Invitrogen Tricine gels are made with high-purity, strictly quality-controlled reagents: Tris base, HCl, acrylamide, bisacrylamide, TEMED, APS, and highly purified water. Our Tricine gels have a 4% stacking gel and do not contain SDS. The Tricine system requires SDS in sample and running buffers for best results.

Choose the right Tricine gel for your protein separation
Invitrogen Tricine gels come in three polyacrylamide concentrations of 10%, 16%, and a gradient of 10–20%. Select from our many well formats, including 10-, 12-, and 15-well. Tricine gels are formulated for denaturing gel electrophoresis applications. For optimal sample preparation, we recommend Tricine SDS Sample Buffer and optimal separation use Tricine SDS Running Buffer.

For transfer of proteins to a membrane, we recommend using the Novex Tris-Glycine Transfer Buffer if performing a traditional wet transfer using the XCell II Blot Module or the Mini Blot Module. Rapid semi-dry transfer can be performed using the Invitrogen Power Blotter or rapid dry transfer using the iBlot 2 Gel Transfer Device.

NativePAGE™ 4 to 16%, Bis-Tris, 1.0 mm, Mini Protein Gel, 10-well Invitrogen™

The Invitrogen NativePAGE Bis-Tris Gel System is a precast polyacrylamide mini-gel system that provides sensitive, high-resolution analysis of native proteins and protein complexes for molecular mass estimations, and assessment of purity. It is based on the blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (BN PAGE) technique developed by Schägger and von Jagow, which overcomes the limitations of traditional native electrophoresis by providing a near-neutral operating pH and detergent compatibility.

Features of the NativePAGE Bis-Tris Gel System include:
Wide molecular weight resolving range, from 15 – 10,000 kDa
Neutral-pH separation, which better preserves the native state of protein complexes
Resolution of all proteins in the gel regardless of their isoelectric point (pI)
Ability to analyze membrane-protein complexes in their native conformations
Ability to obtain better resolution than with traditional tris-glycine native electrophoresis

Learn more about the NativePAGE system ›

How NativePAGE Bis-Tris Gels work
In SDS-PAGE, SDS functions as a charge-shift molecule that denatures proteins by conferring on them a net negative charge and enables proteins to migrate towards the anode. BN PAGE uses Coomassie G-250 as the charge-shift molecule, which binds to proteins and confers a net negative charge while maintaining the proteins in their nondenatured, native state. The near-neutral pH of the NativePAGE Bis-Tris Gel System provides maximum stability of both the proteins and the gel matrix, resulting in a highly sensitive method for analysis of native membrane-protein complexes and offering superior band resolution over traditional Tris-glycine gel systems.

For transferring proteins to a membrane, we recommend using NuPAGE Transfer Buffers for traditional wet transfer and PVDF membranes. The NuPAGE transfer buffer maintains the neutral pH environment established during electrophoresis. Nitrocellulose membranes are not compatible for blotting since the membrane will bind the Coomassie G-250 dye very tightly. Alternatively, Rapid semi-dry transfer can be done using the Invitrogen Power Blotter or rapid dry transfer using the iBlot 2 Gel Transfer Device using PVDF membranes.
