Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium (ITS -G) (100X) Gibco™

Gibco® Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium (ITS-G) is used as a basal medium supplement in order to reduce the amount of fetal bovine serum (FBS) needed to culture cells. Originally used with RPMI 1640 and Minimum Essential Medium (MEM), ITS-G solution is now routinely used with other basal media to support a wide variety of cell types in the presence of 2–4% FBS.

Insulin promotes glucose and amino acid uptake, lipogenesis, intracellular transport, and the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Transferrin is an iron carrier and it may also help to reduce toxic levels of oxygen radicals and peroxide. Selenium, as sodium selenite, is a co-factor for glutathione peroxidase and other proteins, and is used as an anti-oxidant in media.

StemPro Neural Supplement is an optimal, convenient, and cost-effective serum-free supplement for the proliferation of mammalian neural stem and progenitor cells such as human and rat neural stem cells (NSC) and glial progenitor cells (GPC). Due to their scarce availability, the in vitro expansion of these cells has been a challenge to academic and clinical researchers. When combined with the appropriate basal medium and growth factors, StemPro Neural Supplement not only supports the expansion of neuronal progenitor cells but also enables the cells to retain their progenitor status and potential to differentiate into neurons and glial cells.

In recent years, there has been an increased scientific interest in studying neural progenitor cells due to their important role in neurogenesis. pHrodo™ Red E. coli BioParticles™ Conjugate for Phagocytosis Invitrogen™

New pH-sensitive pHrodo® dye conjugates give faster and more accurate results than any other phagocytosis assay.  pHrodo® dye conjugates are non-fluorescent outside the cell, but fluoresce brightly red in phagosomes.  Get faster staining and more accurate results—without the need for wash steps or quencher dye.

Gibco EfficientFeed A+ 3X Supplement is a single-part liquid supplement for fed batch addition to the culture of multiple cell lines to assist with process development and maximization of bioreactor utilization. Compared to original CHO CD EfficientFeed A AGT nutrient supplement, EfficientFeed A+ 3X Supplement has components that are super-concentrated from 66.4 g/L (1X AGT) to 199.2 g/L (3X), helping reduce product dilution or increase titers with additional feeding. Antibiotic-Antimycotic (100X) Gibco™

Gibco® Antibiotic-Antimycotic is used to prevent bacterial and fungal contamination. This solution contains 10,000 units/mL of penicillin, 10,000 µg/mL of streptomycin, and 25 µg/mL of Gibco Amphotericin B. The antibiotics penicillin and streptomycin prevent bacterial contamination of cell cultures due to their effective combined action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Amphotericin B prevents fungal contamination of cell cultures due to its inhibition of multi-cellular fungus and yeast.

Penicillin was originally purified from the fungus Penicillium and acts by interfering directly with the turnover of the bacteria cell wall and indirectly by triggering the release of enzymes that further alter the cell wall. Streptomycin was originally purified from Streptomyces griseus. It acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and death in susceptible bacteria. Amphotericin B is an antifungal agent that prevents the growth of fungi and yeast by causing an increase in fungal plasma membrane permeability.

Tryptose Phosphate Broth

Gibco® Tryptose Phosphate Broth is a cell culture supplement for BHK-21 cells used for vaccine production. Tryptose Phosphate Broth contains tryptose (an enzymatic hydrolysis of protein), dextrose, sodium chloride and disodium phosphate.

Transferrin From Human Serum, Alexa Fluor™ 647 Conjugate Invitrogen™

Transferrin is a monomeric serum glycoprotein (~80,000 daltons) that binds to a specific receptor on the surface of vertebrate cells and delivers up to two Fe3+ atoms via receptor-mediated endocytosis—our labeled LDL complexes are useful tools for studying this phenomenon. Once iron-carrying transferrin proteins are inside endosomes, the acidic environment favors dissociation of iron from the transferrin–receptor complex. Following the release of iron, the apotransferrin is recycled to the plasma membrane, where it is released from its receptor to scavenge more iron. Fluorescent transferrin conjugates can therefore be used with fluorescent LDL to distinguish the lysosomally directed and recycling endosomal pathways.

These experiments are typically performed by adding fluorescently labeled transferrin to cultured cells and analyzing them by microscopy. We offer a biotinylated transferrin conjugate and more than 10 fluorescent versions.
