RPMI 1640 Medium, no glutamine Gibco™

RPMI 1640 Medium was originally developed to culture human leukemic cells in suspension and as a monolayer. Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI) 1640 Medium has since been found suitable for a variety of mammalian cells, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas. We offer a variety of RPMI 1640 Medium modifications for a range of cell culture applications. Find the right formulation using the media selector tool.

This RPMI is modified as follows:
WithWithout
• Phenol Red• HEPES
• L-glutamine

The complete formulation is available.

Using RPMI
RPMI 1640 Medium is unique from other media because it contains the reducing agent glutathione and high concentrations of vitamins. RPMI 1640 Medium contains biotin, vitamin B12, and PABA, which are not found in Eagle's Minimal Essential Medium or Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium. In addition, the vitamins inositol and choline are present in very high concentrations. RPMI 1640 Medium contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors. Therefore, RPMI 1640 Medium requires supplementation, commonly with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). RPMI 1640 Medium uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (2.0 g/L), and therefore requires a 5–10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH.

Product intended use
For in vitro diagnostic use. CAUTION: Not for human or animal therapeutic use. Uses other than the intended use may be a violation of local law. Customers using Gibco® RPMI 1640 in a manufacturing process, who have a submission with the FDA, may request a letter of authorization from us to reference our Type II Drug Master File (DMF).

cGMP manufacturing and quality system
RPMI 1640 Medium is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility located in Grand Island, New York. The facility is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and is certified to ISO 13485 standards. For supply chain continuity, we offer an identical RPMI 1640 product made in our Scotland facility (31870-074). This facility is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and is certified to the ISO 13485 standard.

BenchStable™ MEM Gibco™

Gibco Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) is one of the most commonly used of all cell culture media. MEM can be used with a variety of suspension and adherent mammalian cells, including HeLa, BHK-21, 293, HEP-2, HT-1080, MCF-7, fibroblasts, and primary rat astrocytes. We offer a variety of MEM modifications for a range of cell culture applications. Find the right formulation using the media selector tool.

BenchStable MEM has been engineered for storage at room temperature while supporting cellular proliferation and maximum cell densities comparable to conventional MEM when supplemented with ≥10% fetal bovine serum (FBS).

This MEM is modified as follows:
• Optimized for room temperature stability
• With GlutaMAX, Phenol Red
• Without HEPES

Using BenchStable MEM
MEM, developed by Harry Eagle, was based on his earlier formulation of Basal Medium Eagle (BME). Many other modifications of MEM followed, including Glasgow’s MEM, MEM α, DMEM, and Temin’s Modification. MEM is available with Earle’s salts for use in a CO2 incubator, or with Hanks' salts for use without CO2. This MEM includes Earle's salts. MEM with GlutaMAX supplement minimizes toxic ammonia build-up and improves cell viability and growth in an easy-to-use format. BenchStable MEM requires supplementation with ≥10% fetal bovine serum (FBS).

cGMP manufacturing and quality system
Gibco BenchStable media is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility located in Grand Island, New York. The facility is registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and is certified to ISO 13485 standards.

Macrophage-SFM (1X) Gibco™

Macrophage-SFM is a serum-free medium designed for the culture of human peripheral blood monocytes and macrophages (1).

Contains L-glutamine, but no antibiotics.

PSC Cryopreservation Kit Gibco™

The PSC Cryopreservation Kit contains xeno-free PSC Cryopreservation Medium, which is a ready-to-use solution for the cryopreservation of early passage pluripotent stem cells (PSCs), and RevitaCell™ Supplement (100X), a chemically defined recovery supplement for use in the post-thaw culture media. When used in combination, these reagents help minimize loss of cell viability, maximize post-thaw recovery, and minimize unwanted differentiation of pluripotent stem cells. This kit can also be used to cryopreserve and recover peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) to improve post-thaw cell viability and recovery.

• Efficient recovery—routinely achieves 50% more viable cells than traditional methods of PSC cryopreservation
• Consistent—chemically defined media maintains normal morphology, pluripotency, and karyotype of pluripotent stem cells over 10 passages
• Reduced variability—optimized reagents minimize the causes of genetic instability of pluripotent stem cells

Reliable
Xeno-free, chemically defined formulations help ensure the proliferation capacity and long-term culture of PSCs and PBMCs in a stable state, thus helping to increase their usefulness in research and clinical research applications.

Easy to use
The PSC Cryopreservation Medium is provided as a ready-to-use, complete solution containing 10% DMSO for efficient cell addition. Separate additions of enhancing reagents are not required, helping save valuable preparation time.

Versatile
The kit is compatible with cells cultured in a variety of media systems including Essential 8™ medium, StemPro® hESC SFM, and other commercially available formulations. Also, the kit is compatible with clump and single cell passaged PSCs.

cGMP manufacturing and quality system
The PSC Cryopreservation Kit is manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility. The facility is also registered with the FDA as a medical device manufacturer and certified to ISO 13485 standards.
