Pure barium, ([Xe]6s2) (CAS 7440-39-3) is silvery-white, soft, and metallic. As a member of the alkaline earth group, it resembles calcium chemically. Naturally occurring barium is composed of seven stable isotopes and is not found in its elemental form. The metal oxides very easily and should be stored in an oxygen-free environment. Barium reacts with water and alcohol.
