Chromium (Cr)

Chromium (Cr)

Chromium ([Ar]3d54s1) (CAS 7440-47-3) is a steel-gray, lustrous, and hard metal that finds wide use as a catalyst or in alloys. All chromium compounds have intense and varied colors. Chromium is used as a hardener in steel, for the manufacture of stainless steel and many useful alloys. It is also employed to give glass an emerald green color. Chromium does not oxidize in air, even in extreme moisture.

Chromium (Cr) is the 21th most abundant element in the Earth's crust, and almost all Cr is from chromite (FeCr 2 O 4 ) ore. Natural weathering (e.g. rock corrosion) and industrial activities (e.g. leather tanning, stainless steel welding, plating solutions, and Cr pigment production) are common ways...
Simply measuring the total amount of an element in a sample does not provide the complete picture. Industries such as pharmaceutical, food, and environmental often measure elements that can exist as multiple molecular forms, or ‘species’, that exhibit different physiochemical properties.
