Selenite Cystine Broth Base (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Enrich and improve the isolation of salmonellae from feces and food samples with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Selenite Cystine Broth Base. This modified medium is based upon the formulation described by Leifson1 with added cystine.2

XLT-4 Agar Thermo Scientific™

Efficiently isolate and identify salmonellae from clinical, environmental and food samples with highly selective Thermo Scientific™ XLT-4 Agar. XLT-4 Agar contains sodium tetradecylsulfate which acts to inhibit many of the background flora organisms whose growth can cause problems with differentiation on other salmonellae plating media. This enhanced selectivity allows a significant increase in the recovery of salmonellae, while reducing false-positive suspect colonies, saving time and reducing the costs of further identification of false-positive colonies1.

MacConkey Sorbitol Agar (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Selectively detect sorbitol-negative Escherichia coli O157:H7 (VTEC) with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ MacConkey Sorbitol Agar (Dehydrated). This serotype of E. coli produces a verotoxin and causes haemorrhagic colitis outbreaks1 and is indistinguishable on the routine isolation media from those of non-VTEC E.coli. In 1986, March and Ratnam introduced MacConkeys Agar with sorbitol for the isolation of this serotype as unlike other serotypes VTEC does not ferment sorbitol2. Haldane et al. since then implemented the use of this medium as the primary isolation medium3.

Lysine Decarboxylase Broth Tablets (Taylor Modification) (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Detect lysine decarboxylase production by salmonellae and other Enterobacteriaceae with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Lysine Decarboxylase Broth Tablets (Taylor Modification) (Dehydrated). Lysine Decarboxylase Broth is a diagnostic medium which distinguishes salmonellae (and some other Enterobacteriaceae) by a distinct biochemical reaction. Taylor’s modification of the medium1 shows an improved performance over the formulation described by Falkow.2This is achieved by omitting peptone from the medium, thus eliminating false positives caused by Citrobacter freundii and its paracolon types.

Dichloran Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) (ISO) Agar Base (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Isolate and enumerate yeasts and molds associated with food spoilage with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Dichloran Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) (ISO) Agar Base while adhering to ISO 21527-1: 2008. Dichloran Rose-Bengal Chloramphenicol (DRBC) (ISO) Agar is specially designed to suppress the growth of spreading mold and bacteria while supporting the growth of species that cannot be isolated on Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar or Acidified Potato Dextrose Agar.

Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Cultivate aerobes and anaerobes and carry out sterility testing using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (Dehydrated). This general-purpose medium was first described by Brewer in 19401 consisting of a small amount of agar and a reducing substance to initiate the growth of anaerobes2 and for sterility testing. This medium is recommended by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the AOAC International (AOAC), the American Public Health Association (APHA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Bacteriological Analytical Manual Online3-6.

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Identify dermatophytes and other fungi and yeasts in clinical specimens and environmental samples with the acidic Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar. The low pH supports the growth of fungi while inhibiting bacterial growth in mixed samples. Fungi maintain their typical cultural appearance and, thus, may be readily identified according to standard macroscopic characters.

Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar (VRBL) (ISO) (Dehydrated) Thermo Scientific™

Isolate and enumerate coliforms in food, animal feed and environmental samples with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar (VRBL) (ISO) (Dehydrated), while adhering to ISO 4832:2006 and ISO/TS 11133-2:2003.
