How can I calculate the correct rotor speed (RPM) to use for pelleting my cells by centrifugation? Product FAQ

Answer

Cells should be pelleted by centrifugation at 180 x g (relative centrifugal force, RCF). The correct rotor speed can be calculated by measuring the maximum radius of your rotor and entering the information into the table found at this website (https://www.eppendorf.com/US-en/Products/Special/Webtools/centrifuge-speed-calculator/). For example, to centrifuge cells at 180 x g (RCF) in a rotor with a radius of 15 cm, you would spin the cells at 1,036 rpm.

Can I use a clinical centrifuge for the S.N.A.P. midiprep and midiprep systems? Product FAQ

Answer

No, we know of no clinical centrifuges that can reach 5,000 x g. Most clinical centrifuges have a maximum in the range of 3,000 to 4,000 x g. A high-speed swinging bucket rotor is therefore required for these systems. Often researchers will attempt to compensate for lower g force by increasing centrifugation time; however, this will not work.
