What is different about the MagMAX CORE Nucleic Acid Purification Kit compared to the other MagMAX kits? Product FAQ

Answer

The MagMAX CORE Nucleic Acid Purification Kit offers pre-mixed, room-temperature reagents, which greatly improve product handling and storage. Specifically, the CORE kit decreases processing times by having pre-mixed washes that do not require the addition of alcohol, a single protocol adapted on multiple KingFisher magnetic particle processors, and a complete protocol that addresses 14 unique sample types.

Could you provide an overview of the ULYSIS Nucleic Acid Labeling Kits? Product FAQ

Answer

The ULYSIS oligonucleotide chemical labeling reagents allow you to rapidly and easily couple our fluorescent dyes to purine bases in nucleic acid polymers. The method, the Universal Linkage System (ULS), is based on the use of a platinum coordination complex that forms a stable adduct at the N7 position of guanine. ULYSIS labeled probes are used in fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and numerous other applications.

Is propidium iodide (PI) fixable with glutaraldehyde or paraformaldehyde (PFA)? Product FAQ

Answer

PI is not fixable with glutaraldehyde or PFA. Both reagents fix by crosslinking amines. PI and other nucleic acid stains do not inherently bind covalently to nucleic acids and these fixatives do not crosslink the dyes to nucleic acids.
The one fixable nucleic acid stain is Ethidium Monoazide Bromide (EMA), Cat no. E1374); it covalently binds to nucleic acids upon activation by exposure to light.

How does TRIzol Reagent work for RNA isolation? Product FAQ

Answer

TRIzol Reagent contains phenol and guanidine isothiocyanate, which allow for isolation of nucleic acids from proteins. Further partitioning of the nucleic acids occurs in a pH dependent manner. At pH 7.0 or higher, DNA and RNA partition into the aqueous phase. At an acidic pH, below 7.0, DNA is denatured and will move into the organic phase (interphase) yet the RNA remains in the aqueous phase.TRIzol Reagent has pH about 5.

The Pluripotent Stem Cell Immunocytochemistry Kit provides the NucBlue Fixed Cell Stain. If I don't have the correct filter set for this stain, can I use another nucleic acid stain? Product FAQ

Answer

If you use Alexa Fluor 488/Alexa Fluor 555 dye-conjugated secondary antibodies and you have a Cy5/Alexa Fluor 647 filter set, you may use a far-red nucleic acid stain, such as NucRed Dead 647 ReadyProbes Reagent (Cat. No. R37113) or SYTOX Deep Red Nucleic Acid Stain (Cat. No. S11380). Do not use these far-red nucleic acid stains if using an Alexa Fluor 594 dye-conjugated secondary antibody as there is too much spectral overlap of Alexa Fluor 594 into the Cy5/Alexa Fluor 647 range.
