Can I purchase the Reagent Vials and Reagent Bottles (Sets 1 and 2) for the BenchPro 4100 Card Processing Station separately? Product FAQ

Answer

The 25 mL Reagent Vials can be purchased separately as a set of 50 vials/package (Cat. No. WP3001). However, we do not offer the Reagent Bottles as standalone products. You may purchase them from Cole Parmer:

- 250 mL Reagent Bottles (Set 1) (Cat. No. EW-06019-76) (http://www.coleparmer.com/Product/Bottles_Squre_HDPE_250ml_10_pk/EW-06019-76

- 125 mL Reagent Bottles (Set 2) (Cat. No. EW-06254-20) (http://www.coleparmer.com/Product/Thermo_Scientific_Nalgene_Sterile_PETG_Media_Bottles_125_mL_48_box/EW-06254-20)

Why do you recommend Nunc Cryobank vials for liquid nitrogen storage and the Matrix ScrewTop storage tubes for storage at higher temperatures? Product FAQ

Answer

We recommend using Nunc Cryobank vials for liquid nitrogen storage as these vials are designed for use at ultra-low temperatures. They come without a lid so that they can be easily picked from the rack at ultra-low temperatures using a tube selection or pen tool.
On the other hand, we recommend Matrix ScrewTop storage tubes for use at higher temperatures (-80 degrees C and above). They work well for both manual and automated picking.

I found competent cell vials in my freezer with no box - how can I tell what strain/product it is? Product FAQ

Answer

Almost all Invitrogen competent cell vials are labeled by a laser with the strain name and a batch number. The label is etched into the plastic on the side of the vial, but it may be obscured from view by frost in the freezer.

The cap color can also be used to distinguish between products. Below is a list of cap colors for some of our products.

Chemically competent cells cap colors:
TOP10 One Shot - Purple; TOP10F' One Shot - Blue; One Shot Mach1 T1 Phage Resistant - Blue; One Shot OmniMAX2 T1 Phage Resistant - Pink; MAX Efficiency DH5? - Brown; Library Efficiency DH5? - Blue; Subcloning Efficiency DH5? - Clear; One Shot MAX Efficiency DH5?-T1 Phage Resistant - Yellow; One Shot DH10B T1 Phage Resistant - Green; INV?F' One Shot - Clear; MAX Efficiency Stbl2 - Green; One Shot Stbl3 - Clear; INV110 One Shot - Red; BL21 Star(DE3) - Red; BL21 Star(DE3)pLysS - Blue; BL21-AI - Orange; BL21(DE3)pLysE - Pink; BL21(DE3)pLysS - Green; BL21(DE3) - Brown

Electrocompetent cells cap colors:
TOP10 Electrocomp - Yellow; TOP10F' Electrocomp - Green; ElectroMAX DH10B - Yellow; ElectroMAX DH10B T1 Phage Resistant - Orange; ElectroMAX DH5?-E - Red; ElectroMAX Stbl4 - Clear

Answer

No, but please ensure that the reagent bottles and vials have been loaded in the same tray row as the cards that will be used. The unit automatically detects which slots contain cards and only the slots containing cards are functional during processing.

Why is the lot number on the Zeocin Selection Reagent (Cat. No. R25001) vial different from the one on the package? Product FAQ

Answer

Zeocin Selection Reagent (Cat. No. R25001) contains 1 g of Zeocin Selection Antibiotic supplied as a 100 mg/mL solution (Part No. 450430) in 8 x 1.25 mL vials. Part No. 450430 is associated with a specific lot number that is designated by our manufacturing tracking system, and this is the lot number that is listed on the package. The COA is also created based on this package part number and lot number.

Each of the 8 vials in turn has a Part No. 460509 that is associated with a different lot number designated by our manufacturing tracking system. This lot number is mainly used for our internal inventory purpose.

Should I choose externally or internally threaded cryostorage vials? Product FAQ

Answer

Both types are designed and tested for secure cryogenic storage, so it’s largely a matter of personal preference. In an externally threaded vial (in which the cap covers the entire top portion of the vial itself), the underside of the cap is protected when unscrewed), which can minimize the potential for cross-contamination. In an internally threaded vial (in which the vial threads are inside the neck area and the cap inserts like a plug), the cap is the same diameter as the vial itself which can be helpful in certain types of dense storage applications.
