Learning objectives:

  • Review of the history, biokinetics, and physiology of PCT in critically ill patients
  • Discuss the rationale and evidence for PCT use in antibiotic stewardship in the ICU
  • Recognize the role of PCT in sepsis bundles and how to effectively implement use in the ICU

Speaker biography:

Dr. Gabriel Wardi is an award-winning educator and an assistant professor at the University of California, San Diego. He is board certified in critical care medicine and emergency medicine and is clinically active in both fields. Major academic interests include optimal care of septic patients, improving the ED-ICU interface and resuscitation. He was instrumental in the development and release of procalcitonin protocols at the University of California, San Diego.
