Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) describes an increasingly popular group of techniques including single particle analysis, micro-electron diffraction, and cryo-tomography. These techniques are performed on cryo-transmission electron microscopes (cryo-TEMs), which are specialized TEMs designed to operate at cryogenic temperatures.
