Application Note: High Resolution 3D Imaging of Polymers

High resolution imaging in 3D is of great importance to understand the microstructure and properties of polymer materials. The Thermo Scientific™ Apreo™ VolumeScope™ features an ultramicrotome integrated in a scanning electron microscope (SEM), enabling an automated workflow that allows the acquisition of high-resolution SEM images during serial sectioning with the microtome. The method is also known as serial block face SEM (SBF-SEM). Subsequent reconstruction of the SEM image stack generates a high-resolution 3D dataset not obtainable by any other technique.
