Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a precision medicine approach that adjusts drug selection and dosage according to an individual patient’s unique genome. In 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) added a dozen drugs to its list of PGx-associated medications. However, the PGx of several well‑characterized, clinically relevant genetic variants are not currently being applied. Dr. Stein will review some of the considerations around PGx and PGx-associated research and development, and research associated with genetic variants that are associated with adverse responses to anesthesia.
