Thermo Scientific Ramsey Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detectors protect expensive crushers, conveyors, and other process equipment from damage by tramp metal. Designed for belt conveyors moving coal, iron pellets, minerals, aggregates, and other bulk materials, Oretronic Tramp Metal Detectors detect all types of metallic scrap that conventional metal detectors may miss, including bucket teeth, manganese steel mantles, bore crowns, bar scrap, chains, and tools. They can even detect tramp metal when buried in wet conductive materials.
Oretronic IV-4 offers improved sensitivity over its predecessor the Oretronic III
Oretronic IV-6 offers the highest sensitivity between the Oretronic IV-4 and Oretronic IV-6
Oretronic IV-4: standard NEMA-4X fiberglass enclosure
Oretronic IV-6: NEMA-4 painted mild steel metal enclosure
Oretronic IV-6LT-115: NEMA-4 painted mild steel metal enclosure, 115 volt with heater
Oretronic IV-6LT-230: NEMA-4 painted mild steel metal enclosure, 230 volt with heater
Communication card RS-485 option for use in any of the above models
Temperature ratings for the non-heated units are -40 to +58 degrees C.
Temperature ratings for the heated units are -50 to +58 degrees C (heater required and only in metal enclosure).
The transmitter coil comes with 15 feet of cable and the receiver coil comes with 10 feet of cable. An optional junction box is available to increase distance by 50 feet.
The Oretronic IV TMD control is a direct replacement for the Oretronic III TMD control and will work with existing Thermo Scientific transmitter, receiver and under belt coils.
The Oretronic IV TMD system can be equipped with alarm horn, clip detector, flag drop marker, rotating beacon, high pile detector, RS-485 communication card, and 115 VAC or 230 VAC heater (only for use with metal enclosure, for very cold environments).
The Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector, 6A Control offers higher power and therefore higher sensitivity to tramp metal detection compared to the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector, 4A Control.
No, the mounting footprint for the Oretronic IV versions is not the same as the Oretronic III control. Please refer to the manual for dimensions and mounting requirements.
Detectable tramp size depends on several variables including material, burden depth, belt width, belt speed, and coil gap. Please see the sensitivity statement or contact our facility to help determine detectable tramp size based on a specific application.
The complete system is not designed for applications in hazardous areas. We can provide coils and some accessories suitable for Class II, Division 1 and 2 areas, but the Oretronic IV control must be located outside of the hazardous area. A hazardous area rated junction box can be used to increase the distance the control can be mounted from the coils.
At this time, we do not offer a stainless steel enclosure option for the Oretronic IV Tramp Metal Detector (TMD) control except in Australia. Please contact the factory if you have an application which requires a stainless steel enclosure.
The user interface and calibration menus have changed but the concept of operation and function of fine and coarse sensitivity remains the same.
There are no special tools required.
Improved sensitivity, fewer false trips, better user interface, and multi-language software.
Yes, due to factory and field testing we have proven that the Oretronic IV is less affected by metal near the system and electrical interference by magnets, motors, and other equipment in the area, minimizing the occurrence of false trips.
No, if tramp is detected the user needs to check the belt and remove tramp prior to restarting the system.
At release the Oretronic IV controls have CE, cCSAus, and RCM approvals. If there are other approvals that are required, please contact the factory.

Please refer to the instruction manual for all wiring information.
A controller mounted in direct sunlight may experience darkening of the display with limited visibility or display failure. It is not recommended to mount the control in an area where it will be subject to high heat or direct light. To avoid exposure to direct sunlight a sun shield should be installed.
Tramp metal can stop your operation, and the damage it causes to equipment can be expensive. That is why proactive operators and owners consider tramp metal detectors to be an essential part of their operation.
