Advanced, flexible systems for applications:

Maximum resolution and sensitivity for LC-MS analysis of complex mixtures

Detector options

Choosing the right detector(s) ensures that you can detect your target compound with confidence. Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems can be combined with a variety of HPLC detectors that can be mixed and matched for complementary analysis, and are all seamlessly controlled with the rest of the system using Thermo Scientific Chromeleon Chromatography Data System (CDS) for easy data acquisition and processing.

Available detector types include:

UV/Vis absorption detection

Fluorescence detection

Charged aerosol detection

Mass spectrometry for LC-MS applications

Overview of charged aerosol detector technology, benefits and applications

Unlike mass spectrometry (middle) and UV (bottom), the CAD (top) is able to measure all analytes in the sample. Mass spectrometry (MS) requires the analyte to form gas phase ions while response by a UV detector depends upon the nature of the chromophore.

Method transfer tools

Transferring methods between systems and labs is made easier with Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems. Built-in features of select systems facilitate method transfer by including an adjustable system gradient delay volume, multiple column thermostatting modes and automated sample in-needle dilution, all of which are easily adjusted using the Chromeleon CDS software interface. Our method transfer tools allow you to duplicate other HPLC vendors’ system settings to more easily replicate methods, such as those from a Waters™ Alliance™ HPLC system, Agilent™ 1260 Infinity™ LC system and Shimadzu™ Nexera-i™ system to a Vanquish Core HPLC system.

Precise gradient delivery

Thermo Scientific SmartFlow technology in Thermo Scientific Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC pumps automatically compensates for changing eluent compressibility to deliver the precise performance and flexibility for reproducible separations. This technology ensures highly accurate and precise flows, independent of eluent composition and backpressure.

Additionally, SmartStroke technology in the Thermo Scientific Vanquish Horizon binary pump can virtually eliminate the TFA baseline ripples even with small mixer volumes for lower gradient delay volume (GDV) and higher sensitivity.

Retention time precision

Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC autosamplers feature Thermo Scientific SmartInject technology, which reduces the pressure drop associated with sample injection. There are significant benefits to dampening the impact of the injection shock. It minimizes pressure shocks to the column bed, which extends the lifetime of the column and improves quantification of early eluting compounds, resulting in higher retention time precision.

Significant reduction of pressure drop after injection using SmartInject technology results in improved retention time reproducibility (6 replicates) and enhanced column lifetime.

System Health Checks

Certain Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems allow users to set automated System Health Checks to prevent issues before they impact an analysis run. Quick diagnosis of the system reduces downtime and avoids costly sample re-runs. Select systems also feature built-in video guides to help you perform routine maintenance.

For select Thermo Scientific Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC systems, the optional interactive Thermo Scientific Vanquish User Interface lets you view system health, performance, and equilibration status at a glance.

Scheduling dialog box

The scheduling dialog box allows users to easily automate regular System Health Checks.

Vanquish Solvent Monitor

Most Vanquish HPLC and UHPLC systems are compatible with the Thermo Scientific Vanquish Solvent Monitor, which accurately measures the liquid levels in each solvent channel and the waste container to streamline your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). As part of the sequence ready check, the system automatically warns you if there is not enough eluent or waste capacity to complete the sample sequence, preventing system and column damage and ensuring ‘right the first time’ results.

Chromeleon Chromatography Data System

Thermo Scientific Chromeleon Chromatography Data System (CDS) is the recommended software to control Thermo Scientific HPLC and UHPLC systems. It unlocks the full features and capabilities of your Thermo Scientific HPLC system, ensuring it operates to its full potential. Chromeleon CDS offers unique smart features that deliver maximum ease of use, reliability and performance and allow you to streamline your LC workflows through compliant and efficient control of your HPLC instruments and detectors.

Chromeleon CDS integrates all Thermo Scientific chromatography instruments and provides automated auditing and security for your data to keep up with evolving standards and regulations. It simplifies your informatics infrastructure with a single software that controls not only Thermo Scientific chromatography instruments but also other vendors’ instrumentation.

Reduced cost of operation

When purchasing a new HPLC or UHPLC system, purchase price is only one consideration. The projected lifetime cost to run and maintain the system may be overlooked.

Calculation of lifetime costs for the system should factor in:

The Vanquish UHPLC platform provides lower service and maintenance costs, compared to equivalent HPLC systems, over the lifetime of the instrument, providing an exceptional improvement in total cost of ownership with long term savings.
