There are several possible reasons that the Thermo Scientific™ Model 5030i SHARP Monitor or Thermo Scientific™ 5014i Beta Continuous Ambient Particulate Monitor would throw a "Filter tape change alarm."
First, check to make sure the unit has not run out of tape. To order replacement tape call 1 (866) 282-0430, option 1 and order part number 106443-00. If the unit has tape, troubleshoot using the below guide. For troubleshooting purposes, the possible issues are in order of most likely cause.
Filter tape take up spindle (A) is turning in hub of filter tape spool (B) but doesn’t turn filter tape.
Solution: Reel hub nut on the end of take up spindle is too loose and needs to be tightened.
There is excess slack in filter tape from the filter tape supply hub (C). While performing an automatic filter tape advance, the filter tape counter wheel (D) did not detect movement of the counter wheel.
Solution: Perform a manual filter tape advance until the counter wheel (right side under the filter tape supply reel) senses movement of the counter wheel.
The counter wheel sensor is defective or dirty (E).
Solution: Use compressed air to clean sensor wheel with detection window is located. Ensure contacts on sensor pcb are clean and void of corrosion. Ensure the sensor harness is properly connected. Replace sensor. To order a new sensor, call 1 (866) 282-0430, option 1 and order part number 105938-00.
Defective tape advance motor assembly. Motor doesn’t operate or turn freely during a filter tape advance.
Solution: Replace the defective motor. To order a new motor, call 1 (866) 282-0430, option 1 and order part number 106032-00.
