A next-level innovation in single-use bioreactors—unmatched design, scalability, and performance
The Thermo Scientific HyPerforma DynaDrive Single-Use Bioreactor (S.U.B.) is our latest innovation in single-use bioreactors, continuing the success of the robust HyPerforma bioreactors first launched in 2006 and updated in 2013. This new design provides improved performance and scalability to larger volumes and is suitable for fed-batch and perfusion processes. This HyPerforma DynaDrive S.U.B. helps ensure optimal cell culture performance across all scales and increased cell densities.

Review our summary of HyPerforma S.U.B.s, including the next generation DynaDrive S.U.B., to help make the right choice for your process.
The DynaDrive S.U.B.s offer key improvements in performance and overall system design including the bioprocess container (BPC) and associated hardware. The size options are: 50 L, 500 L, 3,000 L and 5,000 L. The unique shape of the unit and BPC, the design of the impeller, and the improved sensor technology are just a few of the features that were optimized to accommodate the modern cell culture processes. The DynaDrive S.U.B. is suitable for fed-batch, intensified fed-batch, and perfusion applications.
Performance:
- Improved turndown ratio:
- Uniquely designed to allow mixing at very low volumes
- 10:1 for the 50 L S.U.B., 20:1 for 500 L, 12.5:1 for 3,000 L S.U.B., and 20:1 for 5,000 L S.U.B.
- Seed directly from flasks into S.U.B.
- Optimized for modern cell culture processes, accommodating high power input per volume (PIV) and volumetric mass transfer performance (measured by kLa)
- Easily capable of supporting viable cell densities of >100 million cells/mL
- Scaled PIV and kLa for various terminal volumes
- Characterized linear kLa performance
- Considerable savings in capital expenditures and operating expenses due to reduced seed-train and scale-up processes
- Reduced steps, labor and documentation required for the seed train processes
- Minimized contamination risks
- Improved facility footprint space utilization
Bold hardware design:
- Ergonomic unit design for easy, consistent, and reliable BPC loading and deployment
- BPC lift mechanisms allow for BPC loading and connections such as vent filter installations, to occur at ground level
- Cutouts in hardware allow for unique customization and ease of use/access to ports
- New cubical geometry and design improves mixing by providing baffles in corners and better BPC fit
- Lower probe cutouts on vessel for accurate sensing of pH, DO, and temperature
- Bottom-jacketed vessel for better heat transfer and temperature control at lower volumes
- BPCs and probe ports readily installed and accessed within ergonomically designed stainless steel unit of the DynaDrive S.U.B.
- Simple BPC loading with vertical access door on all sizes
- Drive-train integrated within the BPC
- Single-use condenser used to minimize risk of vent filter fouling
- Innovative drive-train design
- Multiple impellers increase and distribute power within reactor
- Allows for mixing at very low volumes, truly mixing through harvest
- Enhanced laser-cut drilled-hole spargers for effective stripping of CO2 and sufficient O2 delivery to cells
- Standard bioprocess container (BPC) designs are optimized for batch, fed-batch, perfusion, and adherent cell cultures
- Patented cross-flow sparger technology for efficient cell culture at lower volumes or terminal cell cultures
- Latest sensor technology in single-use or autoclavable probes (pH, pO2, foam, capacitance, raman, and more)
- Most robust film available in industry—the Thermo Scientific Aegis 5-14 film
- BPC film and components tested for leachable and extractable (L&E) evaluation per BioPhorum Operations Group (BPOG) guidelines
- Ability to fully integrate with the Thermo Scientific HyPerforma G3Lite and G3Pro Bioprocess Controllers with Thermo Scientific TruBio software, powered by the DeltaV Distributed Control Platform from Emerson
- Designed to function as a ready-to-use solution for mammalian cell culture
- Reduced capital investment by utilizing existing control systems already in use in facility, with any software platforms
