Instructions

This procedure is a step-by-step guide for updating both the E-Gel Power Snap Electrophoresis Device and E-Gel Power Snap Camera firmware to the latest version release. Firmware updates are necessary at times when there is a need to add new features or a critical bug fix is required. The updating process will take around 15-20 minutes to complete.

Preparation

  1. Insert the USB thumb drive to your PC’s USB port.
    Note: The USB disk’s file system should be in FAT32. Please reformat the disk if necessary. Please remove previous firmware upgrade files prior to starting.
  2. Download the software update ZIP file from the hyperlink above (requires internet access).
  3. Copy the downloaded file from step 2 to USB thumb drive. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to USB thumb drive’s root directory as shown in Panel 1.
  4. Updates cannot be executed by connecting instrument directly to a computer, a USB device is required to update firmware.

E-Gel Power Snap Electrophoresis Device Software Update

  1. Connect the power adapter to the device and power ON the instrument.
  2. Insert thumb drive in the USB port located at the back of the device, as shown below (Panel 1).

  1. From home screen, navigate to ‘Settings > Software update’ as shown in Panels 2A and 2B.

  1. Press and release ‘Software update’ button. The application will start searching for the update files in the USB thumbdrive. The following screen is displayed if a valid update is found. Press and release the ‘Update’ button (Panel 3).

Panel 3. The base module will automatically reboot after copying the update files to the instrument’s internal storage.

  1. The screen in Panel 4 will be displayed while software installation is in progress. The electrophoresis device module software installation will take approximately 1-2 minutes, please wait.
    Important Note: DO NOT POWER OFF THE INSTRUMENT AT THIS TIME.

  1. Power cycle the instrument by turning the power switch OFF and then ON again after a few seconds. From the home screen, navigate to software version page by pressing ‘Settings > About instrument’ to check the software version (Panel 5A and 5B).

  1. Device software update is complete.

E-Gel Power Snap Camera Software Update

  1. Dock the E-Gel Power Snap Camera Device on the E-Gel Power Snap Device.
  2. Insert the update thumb drive (Panel 1A) in the USB port. Wait at least 3-5 seconds for the USB thumb drive to initialize. A complete initialization is indicated by a displayed USB icon at the lower left of the home screen, as shown in the screenshot in Panel 1B.

  1. Navigate to ‘Settings’ screen by pressing the gear icon located at the upper right of the home screen.
  2. Press and release ‘Update software’ button. The application will start searching for the update files in the USB thumbdrive. A confirmation screen is displayed when the correct software update files are found (Panel 2).

  1. Press and release the ‘Update’ button in the confirmation screen. The application will start copying the update files from the USB thumb drive to the instrument’s internal storage (Panel 3).

  1. Press and release ‘Restart’ button to reset the instrument and start the installation process (Panel 4).

  1. The following screen will be displayed while software installation is in progress. The camera module software installation will take around 3-5 minutes, please wait (Panel 5).

  1. Power cycle the device by redocking the camera module. From the home screen, navigate to ‘Settings > About instrument’ and check the software version (Panel 6).
