Generating transgenic plants is key to the introduction of new crop traits and carrying out gene studies, both in discovery and applied settings. The development of genetically modified plants often requires a complex design of DNA elements to achieve optimum expression. Based on Xanthomonas effector proteins, GeneArt™ TALs are custom DNA-binding proteins that allow you to accurately target any locus in the genome. TAL effector technology has been shown to be effective in a broad range of organisms, including plants, algae, and fungi. The first of their kind, GeneArt Precision TALs are ideal for plant research scientists, offering research-use access with licensing for commercial use through the Two Blades Foundation.
Every plant genome locus is within your reach
TALENs derived from Xanthomonas, a genus of plant pathogens. The pathogen specifically recognizes DNA of the host with a protein containing 17–18 repeats of approximately 34 amino acids each. The nucleotide specificity is conferred by amino acids 12 and 13 within each repeat. Each nucleotide in the target DNA is recognized by one repeat, and this 1-to-1 relationship can be used to specifically target any locus in the genome.
