Novex® Precast Midi Gels  

The Novex® precast midi gel system is a precast, discontinuous SDS-PAGE polyacrylamide midi gel system designed to perform higher-throughput electrophoresis. Novex® midi gels comprise a variety of gel types for separating proteins under denaturing conditions (NuPAGE® Bis-Tris, NuPAGE® Tris-Acetate, and Novex® Tris-Glycine midi gels), for separating proteins under nondenaturing (native) conditions (NuPAGE® Tris-Acetate and Novex® Tris-Glycine midi gels) and for protein sequencing using Edman sequencing (from gels or PVDF membranes). Our midi gels run on the XCell4 SureLock® Midi-Cell chamber system.

Novex® precast midi gel options

There are two types of Novex® precast midi gels

  1. The NuPAGE® SDS-PAGE Midi Gel System—a revolutionary neutral-pH, discontinuous SDS-PAGE system. The neutral (pH 7.0) environment during electrophoresis results in maximum stability of both proteins and gel matrix, providing better band resolution than other gel systems. This system has two gel formulations: NuPAGE® Bis-Tris midi gels and NuPAGE® Tris-Acetate midi gels.
  2. The Novex® Tris-Glycine Midi Gel System—based on the Laemmli system with minor modifications for maximum performance in the precast format. The separating and stacking gels of Novex® Tris-Glycine midi gels have a pH of 8.65, unlike traditional Laemmli gels that have a stacking gel pH of 6.8 and separating gel pH of 8.8.

Both midi gel systems are available in different acrylamide concentrations and well formats (Table 1). All gels are available in 1.0 mm thickness only. For loading volumes, see Recommended Well Loading Volumes & Sample Loads
