MS is a winning technology for drug discovery
The Scientists’ Choice Award is nominated by scientists and recognizes the products that made the most difference to industry and research. For the third year in a row scientists voted a mass spectrometer as Best New Drug Discovery & Development Product of the Year, further higlighting the importance of MS in the development of new drugs or the discovery of new targets and biomakers.
C&EN Celebrates 40 Years of Quadrupole MS/MS
The ability for triple quadrupole mass spectrometers to generate fragments to provide more information about the structure of a compound mainly contributed to the popularity of this technology. Learn more about the discovery and evolution of triple quadrupole technology used for targeted quantitation. As the triple quadrupole turns 40, mass spec gurus look back on what it’s meant to chemistry.
OMass Therapeutics - Driving Native Mass Spectrometry of Membrane Proteins for Pharmaceutical Research
OMass is the first company to offer native MS of membrane proteins, the largest family of drug targets, using the new Thermo Scientific Q Exactive UHMR system. Membrane proteins are largely hydrophobic molecules which require highly heterogeneous micelle assemblies for solubilization. This renders them extremely challenging for analysis by many biophysical methods, and they were long believed to be incompatible with native MS approaches using time-of-flight detection. Innovations in Orbitrap-based MS have opened the door to studying megDalton protein assemblies with exceptional structural insight.
Factory-certified mass spectrometers
Ever find yourself dreaming about using an industry-leading Triple quadrupole or Orbitrap mass spectrometer in your laboratory which is also affordable? Well, make your dream a reality with our fully reconditioned, factory-certified mass spectrometers that come with a one year warranty, Unity Lab Services support and much more!
How to sniff a planet? NASA’s Cassini Quadrupole MS
In 1997 NASA launched the Cassini mission. On board the orbiter was a quadrupole mass spectrometer weighing 9 kg, housing four hyperbolic quads capable of analyzing masses in the range 1-99 m/z. Its purpose was to sniff the atmosphere of Saturn and its moons as it flew by. It was able to confirm presence of water vapor, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, simple organics and complex organics identified in the plume on Enceledus.
Collect more meaningful data
Full scan MS systems produce large amounts of data. We introduced the Thermo Scientific Compound Discoverer 3.0 or greater software to efficiently extract high-confidence understandings with a full suite of tools to address your small molecule data analysis challenges. Streamline unknown identification, determination of real differences between samples, and elucidation of biological pathways.
Solve your small molecule identification challenges
Confident small molecule unknown compound identification and structural elucidation can be labor intensive and time consuming. Simplify through the use of Thermo Scientific Mass Frontier software which utilizes mzLogic data analysis algorithm to go from 1000's of candidates and hours of work, to fast automated logical analysis and rank search more effectively with mzCloud industry-leading spectra fragmentation library to provide greater insights, understanding and confidence when turning your data into actionable knowledge.
Next Generation Differential Ion Mobility for Proteomics – achieve effortless selectivity
Improve selectivity every day when you seamlessly combine the Thermo Scientific FAIMS Pro interface with Thermo Scientific mass spectrometers to further enhance superior selectivity and enable greater proteome profiling while reducing time consuming sample preparation steps. The FAIMS Pro technology is the only interface exclusively designed to improve nano, capillary, and microflow applications, allowing you to preserve precious, size-limited samples while achieving higher data quality.
Follow the MassSpec Leader
At m/z News we want to share with you leaders in mass spectrometry who shape the MS dialogue through social media. This edition we recommend -European Cancer Moonshot Center in Lund, Sweden @CancerLund
The European Cancer Moonshot Lund Center is participating in the largest International cancer Initiative of all time with a planned budget of USD $1.8 Billion and a plan to screen >75,000 patients over 7 years in the US alone. Their primary goal is to identify proteins using mass spectrometry from melanoma tissues that can be used to aid early diagnosis of the disease.
