Members of this G protein family are characterized by the presence of conserved SNF2 domain, a helicase-like region. They also have an ATPase activity and are thought to have a significant role regulating chromatin remodeling. Although SNF2L1 has a ubiquitous expression pattern, its active form is expressed in neurons suggesting a possible role in promoting neurite outgrowth and regulating neuronal physiology. Principal Names: SWI/SNF related matrix associated actin dependent regulator of chromatin subfamily A member 1 (SMARCA1); SNF2L1; SNF2LB; Possible global transcription activator SNF2L1; SWI2 Official Gene Symbol: SMARCA1 Gen Bank Accession Number: NP_620604 Gene ID: 6594 (Human) Gene Map Locus: Xq25 (Human) SNF2L1, a ~123KDa protein, is a member of SWI/SNF family of proteins.
