Amitraz is a formamidine insecticide and acaricide primarily used to control pests such as mites, lice, and ticks on crops and animals. Its mechanism of action involves targeting the octopamine receptor, specifically TcOct-beta-2R, which is crucial for its acaricidal activity. Amitraz alters neurotransmitter levels, including serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, affecting their biosynthesis and turnover rates. Structural studies have shown that amitraz can induce changes in enzyme activity and thermal stability, particularly in lysozyme, through molecular docking and dynamics simulations. These interactions highlight its potential neurotoxic effects and its role in pest control. Synonyms for amitraz include Mitaban, Taktic, Triatix, Preventic, Apivar, Ovasyn, Ectodex, and Topline.
