Basic Orange, often referred to as Basic Orange 2 or by its chemical name C.I. 11270, is a synthetic dye classified within the basic dye category, primarily used in dyeing textiles, paper, and sometimes leather. Structurally, this dye is characterized by its aromatic amine groups, which impart a vibrant orange coloration ideal for applications requiring intense and lasting color. Basic Orange dyes are known for their affinity to synthetic fibers due to electrostatic interactions, ensuring robust dye uptake and vivid coloration. Despite their utility, environmental and health concerns arise due to potential toxicity and persistence in water bodies, prompting regulations around waste management and encouraging the development of safer alternatives with lower ecological impacts. Ongoing studies focus on improving the biodegradability of such dyes and enhancing the efficiency of dyeing processes to minimize negative environmental consequences.
