          Target Information

Caspase 2 is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in programmed cell death, also known as apoptosis. It exists in two forms, p32 and p18, which refer to different subunits of the caspase 2 protein. The p32 subunit is the larger subunit of caspase 2 and contains the catalytic domain responsible for the enzymatic activity of caspase 2. This domain allows caspase 2 to cleave specific proteins involved in apoptosis, leading to cell death. When cells are induced to undergo apoptosis, endogenous caspase-2 is first cleaved into three fragments of 32-33 kDa and 14 kDa, which are then further processed into 18- and 12-kDa active subunits. The p32 subunit is essential for the activation and execution of caspase 2-mediated apoptosis. The p18 subunit, on the other hand, is the smaller subunit of caspase 2. It acts as a regulatory subunit and is involved in the activation of caspase 2. The p18 subunit assists in the formation of the active caspase 2 complex and helps initiate the apoptotic signaling cascade.
