CSNK1A1/CK1 is a casein kinase. These kinases are operationally defined by their preferential utilization of acidic proteins such as caseins as substrates. It can phosphorylate a large number of proteins including CTNNB1, PER1, and PER2. CSNK1A1 also participates in Wnt signaling. It may play a role in segregating chromosomes during mitosis, as well as, cytoskeleton diassembly which may regulate epithelial cell migration.
