Cell division control protein 42 (Cdc42) is a plasma membrane-associated small GTPase of the Rho-family which cycles between an active GTP-bound and an inactive GDP-bound state. In its active state Cdc42 binds to effector proteins to regulate cellular responses such as cell morphology, migration, endocytosis and cell cycle progression. Cdc42 has also been shown to play a role in epithelial cell polarization processes and the extension and maintenance of the formation of thin, actin-rich surface projections called filopodia.
