FIGURE: 1 / 1
Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Chlamydomonas reinhardti
EPYC1, also called Essential Pyrenoid Component 1, is a small intrinsically disordered protein in algae that organizes the pyrenoid, a carbon concentrating microcompartment within chloroplasts that enhances CO2 fixation. EPYC1 acts as a multivalent linker that binds multiple Rubisco complexes to form a dense matrix, promoting aggregation and proper pyrenoid architecture. It helps maintain high local CO2 and facilitates recycling of CO2 from bicarbonate by coordinating with starch sheath and thylakoid tubules. EPYC1 expression increases under low CO2 conditions and is regulated by carbon availability and chloroplast signaling. Perturbation of EPYC1 disrupts pyrenoid assembly, reduces Rubisco packing and carbon concentrating efficiency, and impairs growth and photosynthetic performance.
