Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.

Target Information
Ferredoxin 6 encodes a small soluble iron-sulfur electron-transfer protein that is typically cytosolic in bacteria and functions as a monomeric ferredoxin. Structural studies of the Rhodobacter capsulatus protein show an approximately 106-amino-acid fold dominated by a compact beta-grasp/ferredoxin-like architecture that houses a single buried 2Fe-2S prosthetic group coordinated by conserved cysteine residues; the cluster sits in a largely hydrophobic pocket close to, but not fully exposed at, the protein surface, consistent with partner-specific protein-protein electron-transfer interactions. Functionally, ferredoxin 6 belongs to a subset of bacterial 2Fe-2S ferredoxins proposed to participate in iron-sulfur cluster biogenesis/handling rather than broad photosynthetic electron distribution, and comparative/functional analyses in R. capsulatus support the presence of multiple specialized ferredoxins with nonredundant roles in cellular redox metabolism, including pathways linked to metallocluster-dependent processes.
