Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: GUS
GUS, also called beta glucuronidase, is a hydrolase commonly used in plant biology as a reporter enzyme to monitor gene expression, promoter activity, and tissue specific patterns. The E coli uidA gene encoding GUS is introduced into plants, and its activity is easily detected by colorimetric or fluorometric substrates that produce visible blue or fluorescent products upon cleavage. GUS is stable, has low background in most plant tissues, and allows precise spatial mapping via histochemical staining and quantitative assays. It supports studies of developmental regulation, hormone responses, and stress induced transcription, and can be combined with enhancers or nuclear localization signals for specific readouts. While widely reliable, potential endogenous glucuronidase activity or tissue permeability issues require controls, and alternative reporters such as luciferase and GFP are sometimes chosen depending on experimental needs.
